Did you mean 'lower arm'?

IMO swing arm is on bikes only.

Except the cost of front wheel bearing and the labor for replacing it (~ Rs 1700.00), I would say the rest is about par for every two year (or multiples of 20k KM) service. If you leave out the bearing related expenses, it is ~ Rs 6000.00, which compares with what I had posted. Was the bearing damaged?

I don't see any charge towards engine oil. Did you take it with you?

I guess so, there was quite a bit of noise and some wobbling from that wheel which the SA identified to be with a damaged wheel bearing.

Then how come there is a charge for oil filter in the bill? Did they drain out the oil and re-fill it after changing the filter?

Re: Maruti Service is cheap - A myth!

^^ Not really, but some oil will be lost when the filter is changed and will have to be topped up to reach full level. I see no top-up charge either.

Did you do an oil change sans filter change at some other workshop?

That is very funny. I did 4 springs cut and lowered to my specifications at mod shop and charge was much lower than this. I guess all Authorised dealers are getting some money only through service and their revenues are supposed to increase through increased volumes. And if that does not happen, simply charge more (till the feeling of 'authorized' is better lasts).

This is from the OP dated Feb/2009 for a Baleno 40K service:

And this is from @pkirans' bill for an Alto 40K service dated around Jan/2015:
Paid service: 1325
Front brake caliper assembly overhaul: 964
Consumable check/replacement: 100

If we discount the fact that the two cars belong to different categories it's still a ~70% increase in labor costs. And if you do factor that in, the % increase will only be higher. The 40K service cost of a Baleno equivalent (SX4/Ciaz) should probably be considered.

My 2008 Alto is due for 40K service in a month. The clutch has been shuddering so it's going to require attention (that means $$$). Looking at all this, it's almost certain my bill will be in five figures.

Whenever I bring up this point with the SA, the guy only says all brands & cars have increased service/labor costs, not just Maruti. Not sure that's entirely true

Re: Maruti Service is cheap - A myth!

My Uncle gave his Alto 800 for servicing. The car had done barely 5,000 KM yes 5,000 KM!
The service bill for this car was close to Rs 7, 500!
No Parts were replaced!
Why such a high bill? thanks to unnecessary addons Similar to this one.

Request everyone to be extra careful and vigilant while getting your cars serviced.

Most of them try and sell you snake oil in form of
engine flush - Rs 800
Engine Treatment - Rs 850
Engine Coating - Rs 600
Silencer Coating -
Your car doesn't need all this and will work/run perfectly without any of this.

Don't fall for everything the service adviser tells you.

5000kms is like free service area. How old is the car ?

In any case, all those treatments are scam. Raise it with MSIL asap.

1) When the car was handed over for service, was your uncle present there?

2) Was he at the place during job card preparation?

3) Was he asked to sign the job card hereby accepting the works mentioned on it?

If the answers for all of the above the questions is 'Yes', tough luck to deal with Maruti Suzuki post raising a complaint. Do raise an alarm, no harm in trying.

Even if the car is going for service under in the 'Free Service' zone, these treatments that were done above are evergreen, the SA's @ MASS will do it on a day old car too without any thinking!

All that one can do is be vigilant during job card preparation and object to treatments like such and get it deleted from the job card before signing the dotted line and handing over the keys. If not then God bless the customer!
