Bad experience with RF motors cochin(Tata Service centre)

Hi all, recently my friend who owns a safari had a bad experience with RF motors cochin. His Truck's timing belt broke on the highway and the car stalled.Thereafter he informed the RF motors service center of the incident. They towed the car to their service centre. This incident happened on the 8th of september. They informed him that they could start the work only after getting approvals and that they will have to replace the engine head. The same had to arrive from pune according to them.On the 22nd of spetember, he went to the service center again for follow up and they told him that the engine head has just arrived and that it will take a week more for the work to be completed. They have not started the work yet.Adding 7 days more according to their specified timelines, the car will be back only by 30th of September.Does a timing belt change require a change of Engine head?Does the process of procuring the parts from pune take 14 days(assuming time of 2 to 3 days for a courier)?Does changin the engine head and timing belt need 7 days(considering low numbers of Tata Safari in cochin)? The timing belt is a known cause of failure. But tata motors is yet to initiate a timing belt change and the e.c.u remap for their customers in Kerala.Safari owners please provide your inputs? My friend is a member on Team-bhp though he is not very active.

if a timing belt failed, Its an engine catastrophe - chances are that it killed a lot more stuff, besides the head. you might need to ask them to see what else is damaged - the pistons, the block etc. You will need to spend a LOT more time. I'm assuming that this is covered under warranty. else the bills are going to be huge!

How long had the safari run?

the delay because of the warranty. Its not just the head, some engine internals also will be replaced . I do hope, warranty does cover it and they dont come out with a loop hole.

cheers

dont worry. Just dont 'threaten' the dealer or something like that. this is a BIG FAILURE (prone to the safari's, read TBHP trucks :-) )

just hang in there, ask them to OPEN the engine up and check THROUGH. Many parts may have been damaged for sure.

PS - Since its just over a year, make sure your friend applies for Extended warranty (in case he doesnt have it)

You should search the forum for what happened to steeroid's Safari while it was parked at RF for service.

Other issues have already been pointed out.
