Mandovi Motors - Wilson Garden

What I like
  • Fairly High Standard of workmanship
  • Ontime delivery
  • Despite the huge surge in demand, standards not dropped
  • Always attempt to repair and not replace
  • They listen to you, no doctor knows best attitude
  • They do somethings for free
  • First thing you get on entering is coffee
  • Strict customer - first come first served policy
  • Well located - shanthinagar bus stop next door

What I don't like
  • They might try and sell you extra stuff like devices to enhance fuel economy
  • A little more expensive that a smaller set up
  • You don't get the advisor of choice, strictly by order of availalblity and arrival
  • Too many customers at 8 oclock
  • Giving car in during the evening and taking delivery in the morning will not happen fast and smoothly due to their set routines
  • No body shop in house
  • You can't walk around and see work in progress
  • Buying a part is a bit iffy - geared more to supplying to workshop
  • Sunday Service withdrawn

Mandovi Motors is the First Maruti dealer in Karnataka. The wilson garden workshop was opened in 1984 I guess.

My Wonderful Experience with this workshop:
My Alto's front left fender was totally conked by a two wheeler. So I went to this workshop to get it repaired. Guess what! My Alto was ready in three hours!

2pm: I go to workshop
2:20: Filled the insurance papers.
2:25: Surveyor was present in the workshop and immediately approved my request.
2:30: Service advisor checks and confirms that a new fender is in stock.
2:45: My Alto drives in to the workshop.
3:30: New fender painted and kept for drying. Meanwhile, My Alto was cleanly washed.
4:30: Fender fixed!
5pm: Alto is ready!!

I started with this branch of Mandovi right after my Alto purchase. The car was purchased at Sagar (near Oracle), but with the horrible buying experience, I ended up at Mandovi.

Not sure now, but my vehicle was always taken care by one SA at Wilson Garden, Vardhanan, from day one. When he moved to Mandovi JP Nagar, I also moved. Great experience through out.

The cars in my family have always been serviced at Mandovi Motors, Wilson Garden right from 1995. My Swift D is always serviced at this place. Know most of the SA's here and I always get the Service Advisor of my choice.

Only issue is that the parking place where delivery of vehicles is taken is small and gets congested most of the times. I sometimes walk right inside the workshop to see how work is being done on the car and had no restrictions on that front. SA Sandesh is a pretty knowledgeable person and he usually takes care of my Swift D. Other cars in my family are usually taken care by SA Ajay Raj who is equally good.

My experience, though for a short period now, has been good with this place. As Ajmat has mentioned, they listen to the problem and validate the same themselves with a test drive. In my case I have been able to walk around to see work in progress and by now i have idea of few good SAs. Most of the time I speak to the workshop manager Mr. Ashokan directly and he in turn directs it to the appropriate SA.
Only concern with the place is SPACE, which to my knowledge they are working on some solution upon Maruti's insistence.

Re: Mandovi Motors - Wilson Garden

So Lot of people talk good about Mandovi Motors, Wilson Garden. I have a 15 yr old Maruti Zen (MH410, late 1995 model). It has done 1.78 Lac KMs. It's going good but not able to guarantee a long drive.
For the last 1 yr I am seeing Oil leakage on the engine cover and dripping onto the ground. Its like a very slow drip, 3-4 drops in say 10 hours or so. There is some problem with the gear box is what Mechanics say. I hear some sound when I put the 2nd gear too. I sense this as a threatening behavior and want to do a good service of the machine. I expect the car go on for next 3-4 yrs.
I need to do a good overhaul. Steering Column is worn out and suspensions are crap and hence change all of them.
I stay in Kaggadasapura and Smart Cars suggested around 30K for the whole process.
I know it would cost atleast that much, but can I rely more on Mandovi Motors, Wilson Garden for such heavy work?
Enlightened Senior BHPians, please pour in your ideas.

thanks
Shyam

Actually, I had been going to the Wilson garden one for my swift Vdi since 2006. I always had an average experience because of the long waits from the time we arrive to the time we got the car.
Since I stay on Bannerghatta Rd, I decided to come to the JP nagar one. IMHO, I find the J P nagar one to be much better than the Wilson garden one. They do a quick job and a good one as well. And I found them to be courteous as well.
Haven't bothered going all the way to the crowded Wilson garden one ever since

Re: Mandovi Motors - Wilson Garden

I have mixed feedback about Mandovi, Wilson Garden.

I have read several positive feedback about this service center on T-BHP. I used to drive my car all the way from Yelahanka NT to Wilson Garden just to get the car serviced at a decent place.

Now I have a second thought. They are struggling to fix a wheel alignment issue developed with my Waggy. I have taken the car 3 times there (including the first paid and subsequent followup services), still could not not solve the issue completely.

Last week, the SA had told me that they have tried their "level best" and has asked me to take the car to Madhu's for a detailed checkup

Surprised to learn that Mandovi doesn't have an advanced machine for Wheel Alignment.

I have decided to take my car to Madhu's this weekend.

Model: Wagon R VXI Oct. 2012
ODO: 10200KM
Warranty: Expired
Extended Warranty: Yes. Upto Sept. 2016

I need to check whether the alignment issues covered under Extended Warranty.

My experience so far

What I like
  • Fairly High Standard of workmanship = AGREE with a CAUTION
  • On time delivery = AGREE
  • Despite the huge surge in demand, standards not dropped = AGREE
  • Always attempt to repair and not replace = AGREE
  • They listen to you, no doctor knows best attitude = AGREE
  • They do somethings for free = ? Never Experienced
  • First thing you get on entering is coffee = AGREE
  • Strict customer - first come first served policy = AGREE
  • Well located - shanthinagar bus stop next door = AGREE (This is a blessing as well as curse)
What I don't like
  • They might try and sell you extra stuff like devices to enhance fuel economy = Never Experienced
  • A little more expensive that a smaller set up = AGREE
  • You don't get the advisor of choice, strictly by order of availalblity and arrival = AGREE
  • Too many customers at 8 oclock = AGREE
  • Giving car in during the evening and taking delivery in the morning will not happen fast and smoothly due to their set routines = Not Tried
  • No body shop in house = AGREE
  • You can't walk around and see work in progress = AGREE
  • Buying a part is a bit iffy - geared more to supplying to workshop = AGREE (infact they don't sell to outsiders)
  • Sunday Service withdrawn = Now Work on Sundays also

It is surprising that they asked you to check with Madhus instead of another MASS. As per Maruti policy, we are not supposed to take the car to any service center outside MASS.

Exactly. I have raised this specific question to another SA also to confirm that this process won't void the extended warranty for which I have paid around Rs.5K. Both of them assured me that it won't.
