Transfer of NCB Rejected !!!

Hi all,

I recently sold my Santro (which i had for 7 yrs). The insurance was with Tata AIG and had 50% NCB. When i sold the car, I got the NCB letter from Tata AIG. I recently purchased a pre-owned Civic. The insurance for Civic is due by Dec end. When I approached the insurance companies, Tata AIG says Santro is less than 1500cc and Civic is more than 1500cc so they will not honor my NCB and I will have to pay full premium. When I appraoched ICICI and National Insurance they are saying, for 2nd Hand Car, NCB is not honored and I will have to pay full premium.

Is this the case? Is there a clause for NCB transfer for below 1500cc and above 1500cc? NCB cant be transferred if we buy a pre-owned car?

Re: NCB Transferred rejected

According to tariff, they cannot refuse. But recently, many companies including Bajaj Allianz, Tata AIG and few other are acting funny on this part. They just want to extract more premium hence cooking up reasons like not transferable. It is not that it cannot be done because we recently got a 65% NCB of a Swift transferred on brand new Vento.

My advice:
a) Ask your existing company with whom you have been insured with from past 7 years to insure on the basis of customer loyalty
b) If you had multiple companies then I would suggest go for companies like Future Generali, this is a new company and won't refuse premium even though of small amount.

Re: NCB Transferred rejected

I had transferred 50% NCB on alto (ICICI Lombard) to a new civic (Bajaj Allianz). So 1500cc is either BS or something new which I am not aware of. I also dont think pre-owned has anything to do with it.
Can you call Bajaj allianz and check what they say? If they talk about 1500 clause tell them that you know of "many" cases of NCB transfer from <1500 to >1500 cars? I can PM you my Bajaj allianz policy number if they want proof.

Edit: Time to use http://www.pgportal.gov.in/?

Re: NCB Transferred rejected

@madbullram,

I have attached the NCB section rules as mentioned in the Indian Motor tariff. Pls read the points esp d which is the basis of Tata AIG refusing to acknowledge the NCB from Santro to Civic. Hope this helps.

Re: NCB Transferred rejected

Thanks ghodlur. I am then surprised how Bajaj did it for Alto 99. Will talk to Bajaj Allianz again.

Re: NCB Transferred rejected

Tata AIG finally accepted my request. Just got my insurance for Honda Civic done with them. They honored the 50% NCB of my Santro and transferred it to my Civic. Total came to 11.5k with 50% NCB for a 2008 Honda Civic 1.8V Automatic.

Good to know that customer loyalty is still appreciated by some companies.

Re: Transfer of NCB Rejected !!!

I had transferred my Omni's 65% NCB to a 1996 second hand M800 in 1999 without a hitch. The same was in 2007 changed to a new Alto in 1997. Is there any change in rule pertaining to NCB for the present?

Re: Transfer of NCB Rejected !!!

Some companies reject if you upgrade to a bigger vehicle, >1500cc. Finally, Tata AIG did it for me.
