ICICI Lombard: Send photo of your current policy, get quote for insurance renewal

A seemingly first in the industry ICICI Lombard a motor insurance major has unveiled an unique Photo quote facility for the motor insurance policy. The co plans to send the motor insurance quotes if the existing or new customers send them the photo of the previous years insurance policy on their mobile app. If the customers agree to the quote they can pay for the Insurance online. ICICI aims to attract new customers as well as retain old ones through this attractive feature. They claim that with increasing use of smart phones and today's customers needing instant responses, the insurance sector too has jumped into the digital India fray.

Is this attempt by ICICI a genuine one or another of their marketing gimmicks.

Must say, that's quite innovative. We've been seeing a lot of announcements from ICICI Lombard lately.

This is just one of those ideas that you wonder why no one thought of earlier. What's the point of filling up lengthy forms when your current policy can give the insurance company all the required details for a quote?

:thumbs up to the idea.

Unless it is a QR code that is sent, someone will be doing the data entry, either the consumer or someone at the back end. If done by consumer, it will be free (not considering the time spent), if done by company, then they will charge it in the insurance amount.

The photo of existing insurance may send too much detail about the vehicle such as engine, chassis, full address etc than a prospect may care to share with the company, only for the purpose of getting a quote. I think it is a marketing gimmick.
