Royal Sundaram not paying full labor charges, says that dealer is overcharging

Our car met with an accident and we have Royal Sundaram nil depreciation insurance. Bill came out to be ~1.8 lakh and Royal Sundaram is not giving 100% of labor charges of the Hyundai dealer, citing that the dealer is overcharging and asking us to pay difference of ~36k on labor charges. Is this even legal?

Not an expert in insurance claims, but my first thought in this case would be to contact Hyundai. Mail Hyundai, and check whether the labor charges are justified. After getting a confirmation from Hyundai, send that to the insurance company and ask them to cover the entire amount. Try the ombudsman/grievance redressal routes if they still don't budge.

Please do the following:
1. Get a written communication regarding this.
2. Email / Write to the company's higher officer as referenced here - https://www.royalsundaram.in/custome...ssal-procedure
3. If all this fails, approach the Insurance Ombudsman - http://www.policyholder.gov.in/Ombudsman.aspx

Avoid verbal discussion going forward. You will also need a letter from Hyundai telling that what they have quoted is keeping in mind the safety and quality of work and they will not be responsible incase it is repaired outside.

Well, I'm not at all surprised by this act of Royal Sundaram. Royal Sundaram and New India are both infamous for giving extremely low labor charges when compared to other insurance firms.

Weren't you informed by the workshop about the difference in labor charges prior to commencement of work? The insurance company gives its assessment before the work begins and it is the responsibility of the workshop to give you a heads up about any such difference before commencing the work(especially in the case of zero dep policy).

Is the car already repaired? If yes, then did Royal Sundaram challenge Hyundai when they submitted the quotation for the repairs to the Insurance co before approving the claim? Did they inform you of the workshop overcharging on labour cost? If your car has zero dep add on along with the comprehensive policy, Royal Sundaram has to approve & pay the complete charges to the workshop. All you will need to pay is the compulsory deductible and the consumables cost.
