I got it from HDFC ergo for 4th year. I also explored ICICI Lombard but could not find option in their app. Later their representative told me they could add it but I already bought HDFC policy by then.

Acko policy has registration year and month(Jan 2024), there is no date of registration. Tata AIG had mentioned date of registration as Dec 31, 2023. Vehicle is manufactured in Nov 2023. Ironically some offline TATA AIG quotes I had received from some insurance agents (those who spam on our WhatsApp) had mentioned correct date of registration without me sharing them complete rc details.

IMO the policy document should have the correct date mentioned after endorsement. I have done a few minor (address corrections, nominee details etc.) and one major endorsement (addition of CNG kit) in my previous car policies. The revised policy copy always reflected updated details along with the endorsement date, details and additional premium somewhere lower down in the document. This was the case with Digit insurance, but should be similar with other companies as well. Correction of registration date is a basic service option that most insurers provide. I don't see any reason for Acko to not send you an updated policy document mentioning the correct registration date. Tell them you'd cancel this policy and take a refund if they can't.

Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

I need to buy new car insurance and I am not going ahead with the dealer, doing it by myself. A few service providers offer 3+3 insurance. Has anyone gone for 3+3 insurance instead of 1+3, and what are the pros and cons of going with 3+3?

I am inclined towards the 3+3 year plan, but I understand that although cheaper, it will be locked for 3 years if I need to change the insurance service provider after a year or two. I'm not sure how it works.

Can someone enlighten me on this one, please!

Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

Hi All,

I am in a bit of confusion as to whether go for a Comprehensive car insurance policy or go full blown with a zero dep insurance policy which being offered only by Reliance General Insurance. However, the caveat is, the policy is dependent on the kms driven. Basic 2500km/year to 10500km/year are the ranges and there is one last option for unlimited kms.

Some important details -

2017 Hyundai I20 Active Petrol. (Car is maintained up to the T, absolutely spotless).
Current odo - 56k kms.
No accidental claims last year - thus getting 20% NCB.
My annual running since last 2 years has increased to 12k kms/year.
Current Insurance provider - Oriental Insurance - Comprehensive with RSA.
Last year premium was somewhere around 7k with GST.

I am getting the below options -

Renewal with Oriental - Comprehensive with RSA - 4800 + gst
Reliance - Zero dep - 10500km/year with RSA - 8200 + gst
Reliance - Zero dep - Unlimited kms with RSA - 12400 + gst
Tata AIG - Zero dep - Unlimited kms with lot of extra add ons - 12200 + gst
Acko - With zero dep - Unlimited kms and lot of extra add ons - 31600 + gst

Screenshot for Reliance - Zero dep - 10500km/year with RSA - 8200 + gst

Can someone help me choose wisely?

I have chosen this option for my car's insurance for this year from Reliance. Its called Pay as you Drive option and I have opted for 10.5k kms. The addons as seen in the premium quote attached are exactly the same which I also opted for.

If your annual driving is less, why to pay for unlimited kms comprehensive Insurnace premium, instead opt for the approximate kms you intend to drive. In case of less the kms get carried forward to next year if you renew. In case of excess kms, you have an option to top up.

Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

Hi everyone,

I have a 2018 Skoda Rapid MPI automatic, now into the 7 th year of ownership. It is currently issued with Future Generali Zero depreciation policy with Key replacement add on. I have lost my Remote key and using the spare physical key at present. It costs 16 k to replace the entire lock set as suggested by the Skoda ASS.
1. Can I claim this with the insurance?
2. Is there any downside to this?
3. Will my NCB affected?
4. Is it possible i might not get a Zero Dep policy going forward?
5. Should this be mentioned as a claim in the future renewals?

Thanks in advance.

1. Key replacement add-on is applicable in your case. You need to check with the insurance company about the process to claim key replacement.

2. It would be considered like any other claim. Same pros and cons apply.

3. Would impact your NCB like any other claim.

4. Hard to say as it is at the discretion of insurance company. You can always explore other companies (during next renewal) which can offer zero dep, if existing one does not offer. Usually zero dep cover is hard to get (renewal) for more than 5-6 years old car even with zero claim history.

5. Points 2 & 3 apply.

If you are someone who claim insurance for repairs then I'd say it's OK to claim this. After all, we pay premium to be able to use the insurance cover when we need it.

Thanks for your reply and the clarification.

However, since last 2 years my running has increased to 12k/year and in 2025 I'm planning to do a long trip from Pune to Himalayas and back. So it will definitely cross 12k this year.

The 10500 kms option is almost 10k and unlimited kms option is 12k+gst.

Now, I'm confused between getting the zero dep for unlimited kms which will be almost 14k vs the simple comprehensive+RSA which will be just 5k. Car details are in my post above.

You can decide based on your claim/accident history and personal preference. If you haven't got into major repairs or prefer repair at FNG rather than claim insurance then you can skip zero dep and continue with regular comprehensive insurance.

There is no perfect answer so it is risk either ways (you pay more for zero dep but don't end up claiming or you don't opt for it and need major repair). You can take a call based on which risk you are willing to live with.

Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

I am a complete noob at cars and have always seen them as a point A to B Conveyance only (Probably a blasphemy saying that on here :P). Been staying in Bangalore for a few years now and for at least a few more years no other option but to let the KA govt extort me for taxes, going off track back on track

However, we are planning to buy a compact SUV and have narrowed down Honda Elevate for now - Research is ongoing.

One question on insurance - I have read mixed responses here that Honda Assurance is forced by some dealers and not by others.

Is it compulsory to buy Honda assurance as it seems people find it expensive compared to 3rd party options? Is it recommended?

Buying an Insurance from the car dealer is not mandatory for sure. You can buy the same from outside where it will be much cheaper than the dealer quote. Make it very clear upfront that you will get Insurance quotes from outside and that if the dealer matches the quote then you will buy it from them provided there is a benefit to it.

Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

My first Polo (I'm on my second) was actually found for me by an insurance agent who happened to be aware that the particular model/colour/last-year-vintage combination was available at a specific dealer.

Salesmanship was unnecessary. I was going to buy that car anyway, whatever. But the sales person launched into this compulsory to buy our insurance rubbish. I told her that it was not and I would not, and she would not be making this sale if it was not for an insurance guy.

Somehow, she was vanished, and replaced by another sales person who completed the deal with no mention of insurance

It is a pity that sales staff feel the need, or are instructed, to simply lie.

Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

A couple of Sundays back, we had a minor accident when we were visiting friends at an apartment complex in Bengaluru. We were driving very slow looking for the visitor parking area. A taxi driver just coming out of a parking slot, lost focus and banged our Hyundai Verna from the right.

The bumper, and the right headlight were badly damaged.

Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me-20250105_183541.jpg

The customer of the taxi, who happened to be an Indigo Airlines pilot on his way to the airport to fly, immediately acknowledged the taxi driver's fault, spoke to the driver's supervisor and made him agree to pay the damages. The taxi service driver/supervisor, probably being a corporate vendor to Indigo, didn't want to dispute what his regular corporate customer was saying and agreed to cooperate.

The next day, I raised a claim with Acko. They picked up the car, took it to their Kudlu gate (Hosur road) workshop, replaced the bumper and the headlight, and did rest of the minor bodywork fixes and returned it yesterday. Throughout this Acko was very professional. Acko paid ~28k, whereas the mandatory deductible (Rs 2000) + consummables (~Rs 150) was paid by the taxi service guy (who was also courteous all through).

A satisfactory end to a minor incident.

I am planning to give the car for regular annual service to Acko, instead of the Hyundai service center. Any inputs?
