Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

I noticed today that I have an email a couple of days ago from TATA AIG (who are the insurers for my car) that a claim has been initiated on my policy. I havent (because I have had no incidents).

I live in Bangalore, while this claim seems to have been assigned to a surveyor in Warangal. The details of the names and car registration number match mine

Quote:
Hello MY_NAME_HERE
We are sorry about your recent vehicle incident and wish you well. Thank you for reporting your claim. Here’s a quick update.

Your claim has been registered under Claim Number DDDDDDDDDD. Furthermore, the Assigned Examiner FIRSTNAME LASTNAME and their contact detail NNNNNNNNNN will be assessing the damage to your vehicle XX-DD-XX-DDDD at HHH MOTORS in WARANGAL.

...

Once repairs are complete, do submit all the original bills and receipts. If you do not wish to proceed with this claim, please write to us at customersupport@tataaig.com within 7 days of receiving this email.

Then there is a final email yesterday that they are closing the request without any payout as per my request - I havent requested that either, since I didn't raise the claim in the first place:

Quote:
We hope this email finds you well.

We acknowledge your request to withdraw the Motor Insurance Claim for claim number DDDDDDDDDD and vehicle registration number XX-DD-XX-DDDD.

We will proceed with the closure of claim without any disbursement, as per your request for claim withdrawal.

I have sent an email to their customer case as soon as I noticed this - since I never hand an incident, and so I never raised a claim - and I never gave anyone any OTPs (nor did I receive them), so I'm not sure how this claim was opened without an OTP from my side...

Is there anything else I should do/take care of?

How is Zuno insurance for Skoda in Bangalore? I see they have cashless with all Skoda workshops and their premium is at least 10-20% lesser than conventional guys.

This obviously made me feel like Iv been taken for a ride by the garage, surveyor and company, approving only the things where I pay 50% and not approving any repair as there is a six months free repair guarantee.
Can you post pictures of the damaged parts? On what grounds was the claim for side panels and mirror rejected? Are you sure the garage did not fabricate a different story that the surveyor and company are finding hard to believe? Is the garage third party or affiliated with the car maker? If it is not brand authorised, that was your mistake number one. Second mistake was to give a free hand to the garage to enter details of the incident, which I believe can be a major reason for the company not approving repair for all parts.

Have a serious discussion with the garage manager and the surveyor. Keep Digit customer support involved. I think that shall get things moving for you fast enough, as complaining to ombudsman will be a long drawn process. If you have pictures from the accident scene, that will help your case immensely. Good luck

The car is at the garage. It is affiliated with Digit, and sent there on their recommendation. I was sent a link to upload pics and accident history but also told by cust care that its NBD the garage can take care of the photos and incident report if I tell them what happened. I also told them how the accident happened over the call. They changed the surveyor mid-process and I explained again.

I was dumb enough to not take photos at time of accident, only the Thar's no. plate ,but let them go without filing a complaint. I find it highly plausible now that since repairs are free while products are not, the garage may have given a different story. Iv been emailing and conserving with the cust care for a few days now, they give excellent verbal service because of the IVR 1-5 rating thing but not so on the ground.

I finally forwarded it to their grievance cell and they told me they can't do anything and to take it up with ombudsman 😔

Do you think there's any way for this to not become just an expensive lesson than the solution?

Which Insurance for Skoda after 3 years?

My car is about to complete 3 years next month. While buying the car, it came with 3 year 'Third-party Insurance' by Reliance. My current "Own Damage" is with Liberty Gen Insurance. While renewing the Insurance next month, can I go with a single Comprehensive Insurance which includes both 3rd party as well as Own Damage?

I have no claim last year policy - but had one in year 2. Royal Sundaram has stopped offering Insurance to Skoda vehicles. So, that's out of the way. And I would like to avoid Acko as much as possible, owing to poor reviews.

Which is the most preferred fuss free, reasonable affordable, zero Dep cover one - that offers a Cashless service at Skoda service centers?

In that case, ombudsman is your last hope. You may try your luck by posting your experience on social media platforms, but in the absence of photos from the accident site, chances of a favourable outcome are very low. If you can manage to pay out of pocket, I'd suggest getting the sides repaired at your expense rather than wasting time and energy on this issue. Take this as a lesson going forward, to document any accident damage on the spot with proper picture and video evidence, fill the claim form yourself and always give the carmaker's authorised service centres preference over what the insurer recommends. When I was contemplating Digit and Acko a few years back, I remember one of them refused to share list of their recommended third-party garages publicly while the other had all the third-class FNGs from my locality in their list of approved garages.

Yes you can.

Talk to your nearby Skoda service centres and find out what insurance companies they have tie-ups with for cashless claims. Double check on the insurer's website if these service centres are included in the list of cashless garages. From there, you can decide which one to go for based on premium, coverage and reviews.

Sorry I don't want to hog the thread but didn't realise there isn't an edit button after a while and didn't read through all the points of the reply assiduously, basically as to what reason was given for not repairing the left side the surveyor said I ll put in a request but its doubtful it ll be approved, either you ll get the bumper done or the side, not both. I pleaded with him quite a while that when I got the insurance done the car was in fine shape and now after the accident its not, so why would it be an either/or scenario than fixing the whole thing, only later did I realise its most probably because there is a 6 months free warranty on repairs which the garage guy probably didn't want to bother with, while the bumper/grille being plastic parts would require me shelling out half the money due to depreciation and the dealer probably gets off brand or bulk discount thus essentially earning money from both Digit and myself.

Thanks for the response. The one I initially chose was a better one but the cust care sold me on this one saying its cashless, free pick and drop etc

I have never had a claim declined before because of not taking photos of the accident immediately in past so didn't realise it could turn out this way.

Ombudsman requires hard copies of various things sent to them by mail, so I think for now I ll just shell out for the work already done tomorrow since today's Sunday, and if have the energy and time send out the docs asked for to the ombudsman on the off chance it works.

Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

Motorcycle Insurance Quandary

I'm in the process of buying a 2 Wheeler. The price quoted by the dealer for 1Yr OD + 5 Yr 3rd Party is around 91K. That for a 19L IDV vehicle is a preposterous and hence I decided to do the insurance myself.

Now the first roadblock. The model is not listed on PolicyBazaar. Its a BMW R1300 GS which was launched in July 2024. Both dealers in Mumbai have tie-up with ICICI Lombard so i reached out to I-Lom directly and it still quotes Rs 72K.

I got reference that only United India Insurance does super bike covers. I go to their website and voila, the model is listed and the quote is 35K. I pay online. Payment gets deducted and the online website login shows that payment successful and policy will be generated shortly. I made payment at 17:19 Hrs on 26 May 2025. Till 12 Noon on 27th May i.e. today, there is no policy. So I find their divisional office in Churchgate and land up their. They were helpful and they write an internal email from Finance Team to the PG helpdesk. PG helpdesk acknowledges that payment is received and mails 2 people with TCS mail id to generate policy. That was at 15:00 Hrs today. No response to that email and my subsequent top-ups.

As the bike cannot be registered without proof of insurance, how long do I wait? My motorcycle was to be delivered on Friday.

On further research, I see the same insurance is available on insurancedekho.com . Do I buy the insurance from from ID and follow up with United India for refund of payment ?

What should my process be?

My suggestion would be to wait for policy to be generated. Parallely you can check whether the registration can happen with the policy payment receipt.

When dealing with PSU Insurers one has to be patient with their process.

After 4 follow-ups, the policy was received.

Re: Automobile Insurance Queries? Ask me

Hi All,
I brought a new car last year and got the Hyundai dealer insurance ( Liberty General). That insurance had below 3 coverages

- Own damage valid for 1 year
- Liability valid for 3 years
- PA Owner - Driver valid for 3 years.

Can I now renew my insurance only for "Own Damage" and exclude the remaining 2 coverages? If I now buy the insurance directly from HDFC, will Liberty general still honor the liability and PA Owner-driver coverage for next 2 years? Also, do I need to carry the both the insurance coverage documents in the car ?

1. Yes you can renew only 'Own Damage' part of the insurance. You will be able to see these Own Damage (OD) specific plans while you are renewing.
2. Yes, since both policies will be having different set of liabilities, Liberty General would cover for third party liabilities till coverage period, in this case 3 years from purchase.
3. As per rule, you are mandatorily required to hold a third party liability insurance policy. So advisable to have this policy always available. However, if you have own damage, i don't think carrying that as well would do any harm. More the merrier.

Enjoy and happy driving.

Thank you for your quick and detailed response. Will it be helpful if I cancel the remaining liability insurance with Liberty and buy a new comprehensive policy? Not sure if Liberty will pay back any money but was thinking it may be simpler to hold just one comprehensive policy. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

No, please keep the existing as it is since you have already paid the full premium. You can look for comprehensive plans after 3 year period.
