I agree with black. This is an old thread, and things may have changed since then. That said - what's the most efficient and credible company out there (all things considered)
A list of top 5 would be good.

New india insurance. the experience i had with them for body work repairs in bangalore in 2004 was very good. OK i lost my NCB but with the value of car depreciating the loss wasnt too much.

I see TATA AIG is very popular. Are they really good? They are recurrently calling me up and offering goodies of 5000 Rs as a scratch card.
Also they say that even if I have a claim this year my no claim bonus for the next year will be intact!

Which of these offer 3rd party insurance?
I have inquired at these ICICI, HDFC, etc but they said they offer only comprehensive.

Now my situation is that OHC being 8 old car, I feel that doing comprehensive does not make any sense. Esp since the IDV is so low, and the claims are based on this depreciated IDV, and not the actual spare prices.

If you talk of rule then each and every company doing motor insurance has to give you TP policy but I believe only government companies are offering TP insurance.

Even I am getting calls from them for the past couple of days. Here is the part of the mail they sent me

Quote:
...
there is a special offer from our Partners - Travel
Port, wherein you will receive a cratch Card on behalf of Travel Port
(our partners). As part of this offer, you could win a -Night / 3-Day
nternational orDomestic Holiday, or an Apple iPod Nano (8GB Memory), or
a Nokia 'Nova'Mobile Phone or a Nikon '10Mega Pix' Digital Camera.
...
Another unique feature of this policy is that you will not lose your No
Claim Bonus if your vehicle needs reparing for any Fibre, Plastic, bumpar, denting, painting and
glass parts. However, to avail of this offer the vehicle should be
repaired at our Key Preferred Garages only.
...
See the spelling mistakes in the mail. The initial mail they sent didn't have these details. When I re-confirmed, they added these lines and re-sent the mail. Another concern that I have is that they are saying this is only an online offer and I wont get the same benefits if I go to the local Tata-AIG office. The worst part is the you'll speak to one guy and get the email from another. They say, only senior has email id and they are authorized to send mails from that ID only . I feel this is just a marketing gimmick by the call center guys. Will probably stay away.

- Jag

Edit: The mis-spellings and formatting in the quote above is from their mail itself and not any copy-paste mistake.

Just now received the TATA AIG policy and the no claim bonus clause is,

TA08-Repair of Glass, Fiber, Plastic & Rubber Parts
A claim for only Glass / plastic / rubber / fiber part where You opt for repairs rather than replacement,
at Our authorized workshop, will not affect Your No Claim Bonus eligibility at the time of renewal
with Us if there is no other claim for damage to the vehicle during the period of insurance..

Do you want me to forward the mail I got from Tata AIG stating the above so that you can call and try to negotiate with them?

I absolutely love the way Bajaj Allianz works.

I had to renew my car's insurance which was expiring towards the end of this month. Logged onto their website, clicked on renew insurance, and after payment using my credit card, i was done within 7 minutes. I was provided with a pdf form which was downloadable, and which mentioned it as a Specimen document, which i could show till the original reached me. In 2 days, i received the original document by courier.

Along with the document, i also received this card with the policy details.

Excellent!

I believe Bajaj Allianze is a good bet. My suggestion to anyone going for a vehicle insurance is just don't pay up through the online method. It's beneficial if you could talk to them first since many new schemes may not have been fed into their website.

I had a pleasant experience while I wanted to renew my policy a couple of months ago. A phone call, and a bit of bargain found me getting a sweet deal from Bajaj Alllianze.

Haven't had an occasion to know how promptly they settle claim though.
