Hi Friends!

Need the some advice from Insurance Gurus. I had a bad accident last week and my less then a year old Linea was damaged severely. I have the the comprehensive insurance from Reliance General Insurance. Skipping other details about the how the accident happened etc. There was some third party damage (no human lives) and our great India Police made me settle it with third pary without an FIR etc.

I had register a claim at the toll free number of Reliance on the next day of accident. The car was towed to Authorized workshop the same day (and it was more then one week back). Insurance company has a cashless facility with the workshop.

The surveyor came after two-three days and said since it is a major accident, they need a panchnama from Police, which I arranged and provided. The surveyor has asked the wokrshop guy to keep open and prepare estimates. This process in currently on.

I happen to read different posts on this section (Insurance) and understand that I need to be alert and vigil on many things to 1) get the approval from Insurance company 2) not get robbed by the workshop with huge bill.

The accident was a major one and both of airbags got deployed. there is lot of damage on the front side. During my initial conversation with workshop persons, I understand that there are lots of plastic and rubber parts (including airbags) involved and insurance will cover only 50% of them.

While I understand that and getting ready to see a huge repair bill on me, I want to understand the technicalities and fine prints involved in the process and what can/should I do to minimize the impact on me as much as possible.

In this context, Please suggest what action items would you suggest for me? Do I need to monitor each and every action taken by worshop guys to prepare the estimates? how can I make sure that they don't put many things in the list and come up with a huge bill.

Thanks in advance!
