I have owned 4 MX-5s and if Mazda offers it in India, I will be the first in line with my wad of cash

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

Am about to buy a Mazda 3 in the US. I test drove a few over the last week. Very sporty and sharp handling. Good looks too. But the car is smaller than most others in its class, like the Coroll or the Civic. I feel this will be a problem in the India market.

The best thing for Mazda might be to come in with one of their Mazdaspeed models and carve out a cult status, then leverage that to sell their mainstream cars to the younger demographic who may look for a "sports sedan"

I know of someone who has an imported (I think) 1500 six - the smallest six there is. Even this mill will be a treat, even if we get Wankels only later.

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

Bought the Mazda 3. Here are quick first impressions

Pros
Great styling, sharp steering, great pickup especially at low revs, very good sound system (at least to my ears)

Cons
Way too much road/tire noise coming through. It is much more than the Toyotas and Fords I have owned in India/US. Inside space defintely less than other compact cars. The rear visibility is not that great either.

Overall
A fun compact car, built more for the driver than the passengers. The road noise gives a feeling that Mazda has cut costs in the NVH department while splurging on style. Will update further after some long drives

The sudden changes regarding the duty on CKDs have scared a lot of manufacturers off. Its the change and not the % that worries them as it makes it kinda like an un friendly market to do business for foreign brands.

Infinity is another auto manufacturer that will if they have not already, back out from their India plans.

Miata for 11 lakhs!!! Looks like the website just converted into INR without taking into consideration the market or the import taxes.
BTW, may we know which great website published this when the rest of the industry is not even aware of it?
Edit: Just saw that the Miata 1000.8l is a diesel having 0-100 of 17 secs!!!

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

Latest news to add to this two year old thread!!

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...LEFTTopStories

From the article, "Mr. Kogai, who took the helm of Japan's fifth biggest car maker by volume in June, said the final decision on India will be made after the current three-year business plan ends, noting that Mazda's top priorities at the moment are the launch of production at its new plant in Mexico and ensuring sales growth in North America and other major markets".

I wouldn't be surprised if I re-read the same headline two years down the line

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

Mazda considering India return.

Mazda Motor Corp., the Japanese car manufacturer is aiming to re-enter the Indian auto market. It is a well know fact that India is a developing nation, and the International car makers see a huge potential here. So as Mazda, which is planning to make the country an important production and export hub for its vehicles

The final decision on returning to India will be made after the completion of its three year business plan. Moreover, the company is also busy in launching its new production plant in Mexico and ensuring sales growth in North America and other major markets. The Japanese auto maker is certainly looking to do better in India than last time.

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

Interesting. Have seen some nice Mazda cars in Qatar, Abu Dhabi. Liked the CX-5.

They can have my money if they bring the new Mazda 3 or the CX-5. Awesome cars.

Re: Mazda All Set to Enter India

This is an old thread, but yet to see any real update.

On a lighter note, Mazda can seriously consider launching VX-1 here in India. For those who know what it is.

- we'll have another badge engineered brother-from-another-mother Ertiga lookalike then!

But I think MSIL has a non compete agreement with Mazda on the Ertiga - not sure though.
