O teri,Alto is on fire, its just 18565 behind the aggregate sales of all cars of Hyundai put together!!:thumbs up
And when all put together for the bottom 5(Ford India,Toyota,Honda,VW and Skoda),it tops them by 31058!!:Shockked:
Boy,that is sure selling like hot cakes.I wonder what will be the dynamics if MSIL launches the much talked about Cervo and reduces the price of Alto?

clap: great observation. I am going to quote this somewhere - I hope you don't mind.

1. Does this sales report account only for all bookings not entirely delivered or only delivered bookings?
2. Does this report relate to FY Apr 2009-Mar 2010 vs Apr 2010-Mar 2011 % growth?

Also NA would be "Not Applicable" I guess.

Just wanted to highlight since, for example, the known Etios booking reports are 20k+ whereas the figures here are 7k+ and there could be similar situation for other brands also. There is a doubt on what exactly this sales report comprises to get a good grasp of what this translates to.

Mercedes sold 1131 S class's! For a car thats priced at 80 lakhs starting thats a huge number.Though this might be the oldest among the premium luxury sedan, indians sure have a soft spot for the S class.

Thanks for your queries.
1. This report is for the delivered vehicles.
2. Yes. That's the comparison

And NA would be "Not Applicable" since these were not available during the previous financial year.

For everyones ease of reading, arranged the same data in Largest to smallest mode. Enjoy the stats...

The sheer market capitalization by Maruti is mind-blowing! It is amazing how they created a winner in Alto to replace 800 so effectively. It is indeed quite an observation that Alto's sales surpass the entire Hyundai platter!

Btw, where did you source this info from? Asking so we'd know if there is any margin of error (exaggerated sales etc.)

When did the production of Getz exactly stop - 99 seems a very odd no.

I'm unpleasantly surprised that a hot pancake like ANHC had just a ~4% increase. Honda really need to put their act together for a low cost hatch, else they will soon go way bottom in that list.

Amazing stats though - gives a crisp picture of the Indian Automotive scene!

Breaking the small car fortress of MSIL would need a product pricing keeping the profit books closed. More than the pricing, I think MSIL enjoys the reach all across the country. Remember the old gypsy advertisement featuring Leh : "Maruti service centre milega". Its that sense of peace that no one else provides.
Tata and Hyundai have surely come a long way, but its still a long way to go...long long way to go.I am sure we still have many towns which would be having only MSIL dealers since ages.
But nice stats to get a feel of how the four legged creatures are growing.

Yes, the sales report do accounts for delivered vehicles only, but there is a catch. It doesn't give the number of vehicles delivered to the end customers, but to the dealers. Remember every car that leaves the factory is "sold" to a dealer. This is the number that is quoted in the Total Sales Report of an OEM as the dealer pays to manufacturer before taking delivery. And obviously, the amount paid by the dealer is less than the Ex-showroom price of the car; this gives the dealer a margin per car.
