Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Guess looks are important to Indians only when looking for a bride! LOL! Cars, anything will do as long as it delivers kilometers per litre and is a three box design!

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

I asked for this once but will ask again.

does anybody have the petrol/diesel breakup for figo/swift/ritz/punto/i20.

I am curious to know if hte soaring petrol prices has had an effect on the split.

for eg the i20 used to be 15% diesel and rest petrol. has this gone up by any chance.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

I am very early buyer of Toyota Etios ( Jan 11 ) & also owns Alto for last 7 yrs, At half of the Price, Alto interiors are as good as or even better than Etios. Toyota not even provided the rubber moulding, which accumulates lots of duston side panels. The so called average of 17.6 Kms/ Ltr is confined only to ARAI tracks & in Mumbai, the average is still in the single digit .....Bottom Line....Maruti is the only Indian Car maker, who provides the VFM & will rule the markeet for years to come

Honda - well, I guess they have been smug too long. Look at Toyota - their Etios collectively outsells all Honda products. Toyota tried to understand the market and catered its product to Indian tastes while Honda launched their Jazz at 8 lakhs!

Suzuki - It never ceases to amaze me how a company which makes average cars with same pedestrian interiors manages to maintain this 40%+ market share.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Tata Motors May-11 sales are 10% over May-10 last year. Here is the link to the FE report:

Tata Motors May sales up 10%

As far as I remember, all the numbers are on the lower side as compared to Apr-11 number by Tata.

Re: April 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

FIGO
I see that figo has sold only 6Kunits and this is down from the 7-8K units that it was selling 3 months ago.
I do not see any marketing efforts(No PR, No discounts or offers) from Ford indicating that they must be satisfied if not very happy with the numbers.
I am not sure if the numbers were more than this how they are going to handle the service and etc etc

i20
i20 meanwhile is selling in the segment. 8K unit is very solid.

SWIFT
I am surprised to see Swift continuously selling 10K + units.
WHY ?
How they manage to sell a vehicle with 3-4months waiting period is a big mystery. India, is Maruti country.

i10
i10 sells 12K. For hyundai i10 is swift fighter and it is doing its job well considering this. Now when you consider that Wagon R sales + swift sales are the i10 competition the suddenly i10 sales does not seem so much. If you add i20 sales also then they seem matched.

SANTRO
Santro
selling 8K. it is a 10year old car for god's sake. how can someone buy it ? Brilliant marketing efforts from Hyundai

ALTO
What happened to Alto 13K lower in numbers ? Decrease in number of altos is more than the total sales of Tata (nano excluded)

BOLERO
YOu are the child of India's heart (rural areas). There will be no one to hinder your home run atleast for a while.

ETIOS
Etios numbers are rising but needs to be seen where it will stabilize once the back log is cleared.

VENTO
Good going. You will beat your younger bro. Just wait for your time.

FIAT
I am guessing you must be thinking you have accomplished to stay dead at your spot. Wake up do some marketing and get people's attention. Make fiat a people's car not just a true fan's car.

I think this refers to the two wheelers. As far as the 4 wheelers is concerned Mahindra has posted a 20% rise in the May month sales with 34,323 units being sold as against 28,488 in the same month last year. As per the report Mahindra Verito has seen a 185% jump with 1291 units sold as against 450 last year same time. Surely the breakup with Renault has yielded sweet results for M&M.

Mahindra sales up 20% to 34,323 units in May - Money - DNA
