I looked into the polo UK site - the GTI starts from around 19k GBP. Plus options. That's around 14 lakhs INR. Even if we understand that the regular Polo here is less costly than it is in UK, still the GTI should be somewhere around 10-11 lakhs.
Will VW be so optimistic as to launch the GTI in India?

I don't think the GTI will ever be locally assembled in India. If ever launched, it'd be a full import and would cost nothing less than 15lakhs.

Maybe the 1.5 diesel will be the Polo Sport. Seems unlikely that after having launched the 1.6 petrol, which is a low volume model, VW would bring in another high-powered petrol engine for the Polo.
But it would be welcome, though....

I could be wrong here, but addition of features have come at the expense of other features. For example, addition of electronic adjustment for mirrors came with the deletion of rear power window controls at the driver side. (Or so I know, please correct me if I am wrong).

I hope they aren't planning to bring in the update soon. Sure it offers great new features and possibly bigger more powerful, more refined engines but as a current vw customer who bought his Polo 1.6 HL Mar '11, this news makes me mad. Further enraged by the fact that VW will flatly refuse to offer these updates to the current owners no matter how astronomical the cost.

As for those wondering how they will incorporate the steering mounted controls, i am quite sure all they need to do is replace the steering wheel.

According to sources & ACI magazine VW is developing a 1.5 Diesel as an upgrade for the POLO.

Latest Reports suggest it is going to be a 4 Cylinder motor generating 94 bhp

Launch Date should be some time around launch of NEW SWIFT.

Price, Around Rs 35,000 more than the current 1.2 TDI

I really hope soon is soon. Maruti seems to be delaying Swift too much. I agree the 1.5 Polo would be 8-8.5 lakh OTR but the engine should be a gem compared to the current 1.2L 3 pot in the diesel Polo. At 35K more, it sure sounds good.

So this pricing will include the extra features as well [yeah, they might cut out on some existing features as well]?

Off topic:: Could anyone give me a hint of the servicing costs in a nut shell for Polo 1.2 D? May be some owners could give the numbers. Please don't point me to some threads and ask me to scan thru, if you don't have the info, please feel free to pass on the question !

The Polo deserved a better diesel than the 1.2 in the first place and would be a totally different animal with a 1.5D motor. Direct competition for the Fiesta 1.5 diesel hatch, if and when it makes it to India.
