Re: Car Colours in India and what their makers call them!

My 2 cents of weird colours names.
Indica V2 2001 - Stone Blue: No sign neither of stone nor of blue
Zen - Pearl Grey : Aren't they opposites ??

How bout a 'RAPE Yellow' Bugatti Veyron!

Bugatti launches new online configurator... complete with Rape Yellow — Autoblog

BTW they are referring to the Rapeseed flower's colour

I get why they named the Blue as Deep Sapphire but why is is the new one called Rallye Red, anyone?

Squeeze for that weird green color by Ford.
Didnt they also have a 'Chill' colour for the Figo?

Tell me about it! I am finding it so difficult to find someone to get a decent paint job. It does look like I will have to give in to the monstrous paint estimate given at the ***

Rallye here could mean the French for rally.

Source: Wikipedia.

My golden(basically) fiesta comes up as "platinum" at one service centre, and "moondust silver".
never golden.

i wish each color had the old gradations we had in school, light, dark and medium.

Re: Car Colours in India and what their makers call them!

Noop, what an howlarious analysis. Like they say in Macdonalds - "I'm Loving It" .

To add to that list, here are a few that puzzles me to no end.

Skoda Laura: Cappuccino Beige! What kind of color is that? (Agreed, my car is of the same color), but come on! Call it Beige or just a shade of brown.
There is another one called Arctic Breeze or something. Now its that supposed to be a color, or is it the breeze we feel in the Arctic circle? I guess its derived from the color, your skin turns to when you feel the Arctic breeze!

Ford Fiesta: Chill Metallic! CHILL METALLIC. What on earth is that. Is that a new color code. This color is neither Chill nor Metallic (OK, it is metallic). But seriously.

Maruti Stable (WagonR): Silky Silver / Pearl Silver. Just call that thing Silver. Why the silkyness or even Pearl?

What stuff were these guys high on, when they came out with these outrageous names? Leaves me bewildered.

Sapphire is a gem stone which is of blue color, thus the blue color called Deep Sapphire blue. Rallye is a French word means rally. Now this rally also means together/ common etc. So I guess this rallye red color is a normal red color darker than habanero red color.

yeah, thats why I said I get why they named the Blue after the Sapphire. Not sure why the red is named Rally (especially because all the rallying in France seems to be done for strikes!)
by the way, the rallye red (more similar to the red on the Figo) is brighter than the dull habanero red

The nomenclature are puzzling no doubt, but also quite refreshing. Adds exclusivity to the packaging of a car, if you ask me. I am sure a dull brown Skoda will not sound as inviting as a Cappuchino beige Skoda

C'mon we call our cars The Mile Cruncher, The Bull, and what nots, instead of just calling it My Car. Gives its an identity amidst its batch produced siblings, no?

HAHA. Really funny.

As soon as you see this metallic color, you chill.
Yo!

You wont believe how much time the color developers spend to get a pearl or silky finish. Maybe thats why they self congratulate themselves by giving the shade a funky name.

Maruti also has their share of goof ups. Classic example - Ritz Genus in emerald blue! Emerald and blue

Re: Car Colours in India and what their makers call them!

Does anyone have the full list of colours that the Swift has been available in? I only found these in their online brochure:
  • Solid Bright Red
  • Metallic Azure Grey
  • Metallic Silky Silver
  • Metallic Sunlight Copper
  • Metallic Midnight Black
  • Pearl Metallic Arctic White (quite a mouthful that!)
Carwale list a "Goldsmith Black" as well.
Some other motors site lists a "Metallic Ozone Blue" as well.

My own 2006 Vxi is "Brilliant Blue". Actually am not 100% sure because the MH-12 RTO has reduced this to "B. Blue" on my RC smart card . Any help would be appreciated.

Some additional Maruti colours (Alto's) as per cardekho.com:
  • Superior White (begs the question: superior to what?)
  • Blue Blaze (what a waste: Silver Blaze would be such a nice name, any Sherlock Holmes fans in the house?)
  • Fire Brick Red (I like this)
  • Ecru Beige (this is actually a colour, so full points to Maruti.
Also listing some Toyota Etios shades from their website:
  • Celestial Black
  • Harmony Beige
  • Serene Bluish Silver
  • Symphony Silver (air cooler free with every purchase?)
  • Vermilion Red (groan- Vermilion IS a colour- why tag Red after it?)
  • White (huh? really!??)
