Re: Toyota Fortuner Facelift Spied! *UPDATE* Uncovered pics on Pg.6

Wow,what a gr8 scoop!!!
Will book one right away if it launches in India.
But today i caledup lakozy, millenium they said they didnt have any news on the Auto Tfort.
Moreover they said the waiting period for the Tfort is still 4-5 months.
I wonder if they have such huge backlogs, how will they launch the AT tfort?

But I loved the front grill and pradoish front look of the tfort.

I dont think even 20% of the Fortuner owners would have ever taken it off-road or would do it in its life time. I believe the high sales numbers are because of the sheer size & road presence coupled with the T badge reliablity + brand name.

I believe if they bring in the 2WD & price them a couple of lakhs less [with lesser features] the sales will still be good or better. But I doubt they will reduce the price. With the launch of 2WD, they might decide to price the 2WD at current 4WD price & move the 4WD a step higher.

Edit:: And for these 80% [assumed], the lesser priced [hopefully] 2WD which gives the extra 1 or 2 kmpls would make the grin wider !

If you don't need the toughness and 4WD of the Fortuner, then there are better (read more luxurious/comfortable) softroaders around.

But if 90% of people buy it for its looks and T brand, then people would continue to buy the 2WD version. I wonder what are the ratios b/w sales of 4WD/AWD and 2WD versions of other SUVs in India (e.g. CRV earlier, Endy, Captiva etc.)

I am waiting for the launch so that I can add a few things to my Classic one - HU, HID etc.

It is quite possible that its a 4WD;
There might be shift on fly switch just like the way it is in the AT endy!

If that is the case, it would be even better. Use 2 WD in normal road conditions and switch to 4 WD when the roads disappear.

But, I strongly feel that this is the high-end 2WD Auto. Hope the manual comes with a 6 speed box...:-)

You are bang on in your observation. There exists a huge market for the 2WD Fortuner too.

The revised front end is perhaps the best upgrade that Toyota has done to the Fortuner. They have softened it's brute looks which now seems the norm in the SUV market and made it more Pradoish as already said, but some purists may differ from my view. The engine's output is also seemingly being upped to Prado levels by revising the same engine slightly.

But I don't think it will be available before the New year, otherwise for a Diwali launch news would have trickled down to the dealers. So Jan-Feb next year it will be with deliveries around April. Just in time for my 2nd car upgrade...

What sets it apart may be its 4WD abilities, but how many people are going to actually bother testing it out there? I'd say, not more than 10% of the Fortuner owning crowd. They'd drive it only in the city, and on the occasional highway drive.

Some people want the Fortuner for the way it looks, for the way it feels, and of course, for that all important Toyota badge. At the same time, they'd like to save some money. For these people, the 2WD makes the most sense. Not only do they save a large sum of money, they will drive pretty much the same car (2WD or 4WD, it doesn't make any difference in the city or the highway), and now with an AT, it makes even more sense.

Good move by Toyota.

WHat they should now focus on, is improving the interiors and engineering it for a better driving experience. And only then, would I consider it, if I were to ever consider a SUV.

Until then, it would be the Ford Endeavour for me.

How much of these filters into the Indian facelift next year, remains to be seen.
Cool pics! The face-lifted Fortuner really looks more appealing now.

I really liked the Projector type Headlamps and the Interiors look better now.

Hope they have introduced disc brakes for the rear wheels now!

Also any pics of the rear? I disliked the previous gen Fortuner's rear tail light design as it looked to basic for its design.

But then how much of these goodies Indian customers will get remains a puzzle for now.

No Rear Discs, still.

Rear looks like this (not very flattering, if anything worse than before, imho)

But lets see the response this Facelift gets. Will then decide. Maybe a 2WDAT this time. You should go ahead, btw... waiting for your OT on this as soon as it is launched

Note from Mod : Please refer to the recent PM announcement that stated we do NOT permit calling new cars by their acronyms. Please use the full name for each car that you are referring to. This will help others, experts & newbies alike.

What is there to strip down in the Fortuner?
AWD & 4WD abs airbags and music system.
The high end fully kitted Fortuner doesnt even have rear discs. Its already stripped.

There are vehicles already in India, facelifted versions and also with AT, which are being tested / in final stages. Anyone have any news on whether the vehicle has already been homologated by ARAI or not?

The launch is definitely planned for Auto Expo 2012!

Bring it on!
They have removed the link!!!
