Beemer, Mr. Boombastic, I think (and so does the rest of the board!) that each of you have put forward your thoughts on this and I suggest that both of you'll agree to disagree on this topic. Its just going around in circles now.

Just when I said goodbye Skoda I have to make yet another final post on this thread...
1. I agree with what you have said, Rtech
2. I agree to disgaree with Beemer

Now, for a final goodbye.... Goodbye, Skoda! lol:

I'm sure Lukas Folc is shedding a tear right now :)

Hey, Amazing thread though i agree with Rtech when he mentioned about going around in circles ?? The thread was a simple one and each members idea/opinion cud have been made in one post but damn its upto 8 pages ... seems it really got a lot of ppl going .. lol !!

My 2 cents I guess .... I convinced a friend to get the Skoda and if he is to read this I just might have to run up to the mounatins !! Anyways, 2 weeks after he got the Skoda his side view morrors got stolen one night ... ok till there but when he found out the price of a new set the next morning ..... my phone rang ... Close to 15K for the two of them ( thats absurd ) . Finally got a garage owner to source us a set and he did for 3K ( whew ... gud ol India ) .

As for the topic, such high costs of maintaining a car of this segment is way too much and Skoda will soon realise and hopefully get their feet back to reality and get customer friendly by dropping pricces of spares. And I think Rtech u mentioned about getting your car done from a trusted mech ( thats what I do with my Palio ) but your car is pretty new and won't it affect the warranty on the car ??

I defnitely don't think I'll look for a RS anymore ... !!

Cheers

In year 2003, Skoda Octavia was class leader.

In 2004, Corolla and Optra swiftly overtook it.
Octavia : 6882
Corolla : 9861
Optra : 8628.

In 2005, Octavia bounced back to beat both Corolla and Optra.
Octavia: 7692
Corolla : 6176
Optra : 4699.

Normally, bad A/S/S and expensive maintenance kills a car very quickly (as in case of Palio), but despite of it, Skoda Octavia is crusing happily even after 3-4 years. May be it's fascination of indians with economical diesel vehicles, or may be it's just that A/S/S and maintenance issues are not faced by many.

Disclaimer: I am not biased towards any of these cars. I am just trying to analyze facts.

i actually wanted to go in for a used skoda, my friend who owns one discouraged me by saying that it is very expensive on spares and servicing.

then even the threads on tbhp confirmed the same..

it just doesnt make sense to own a car that is as expensive to maintain as a merc or a beemer.

Another problem with the Skoda, atleast at the time I bought it - only 1 year warranty. Ofcourse now its 2 years. So no issues for me.

Skoda Auto sold 927 units in January 2006, registering a 54% growth compared to the same month last year...

But I am still waiting to see how many SKoda Lauras are sold lol:

Where exactly is he located and does he service Fiats too? ;)

Despite the hoo-ha on the Skoda's ASS I still would buy a Skoda. I have had bad experiences with Marutis. But it does not mean that the car is bad, its just that I did not locate the correct guy. And regarding spares, the day Skoda realizes it is doing a massive c**k-up, it will pull its act together. That day will come in a few years time, by which time I will be ready to buy a Skoda I guess. LOL

sorry about that did not know

well still i would say skoda L & K is for me for sure.

any one who has can plz tell me how is it ?

i think if one plans to buy skoda should keep Rs.1 lakh more in spare for repairs and spares in coming next 2-3 years !? add it in cost of ownership in this way you will not regret later !

what do you say?
