Agree. Ford Fusion was ahead of its time and I dont think it was 7 seater either. Omni was the darling of many families till now. Given the increased income levels and awareness, many families will opt for more premium MPV with all the bells and whistles.

A Leading AutoMag (Autocar) mentions it as late 2012 Launch. Maybe diwali time in 2012 should be a good target.

AFAIK the Ertiga is to be show-cased in the coming auto expo and should be available by March 2012 or so.

R=row.
R3= Three row vehicle.
Therefore the name RTiga or Ertiga to pronounce it better. Thankfully it looks much better than the hideous JDM fit shuttle.

The new car of Maruti Etriga is in vision and talk in our form.As per last year or year before's Auto Expo MSIL is supposed to bring the RIII model. Any idea what happened to that.

The Ertiga is nothing but the RIII. While RIII was the concept version, Ertiga is the one that will be put into production in due course.

The article says the Ertiga will run the same 1.3 National engine used by all other Maruti diesel vehicles. If this is true, will it be a good match for the Innova (inspite of undercutting Innova by a good price margin) ? OR is Maruti aiming for the 7-seater taxi segment?

I also wondered about using the 90BHP version of the national engine. Would it be powerful and torquey enough for a 7 seater? The Ertiga is probably going to be pretty light, but after adding the weight of 7 average people, I still have my doubts simply because of the pretty large difference n the capacity of each of the two engines.

Some days back, one of the Maruti officials had said that they are developing RIII as a good commercial vehicle. So, the target is the same - Innova customers. Some for personal use, others for commercial use.
