Its the tsunami effect. Not only Innova, but also all other Toyota numbers have gone down. As you may be aware, there was only 30% production till 20th may.

Re: May 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

* Seems like the Vento has taken the hit more than the ANHC due to the new Verna! Diesel wars here!
* What happened to the Figo after the dream run it had during the previous months?
* Last month I was thinking the Nano is finally picking up pace, thanks to TATA's aggressive marketing, but doesn't seem like that now.
* Beat's low numbers? Beat diesel is being expected eagerly by potential customers maybe?
* Overall TATA sales taking a huge hit? Indica, Indigo doing very low numbers.
* Etios doing pretty good, Innova posting lower numbers?
* Jazz, Accord, Civic! Come on Honda do something!

Re: May 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

There seems to be a dip in the sales of almost every car manufacturer.
I think, the overall economic conditions are to be blamed for the slowdown in sales. The manufacturers were always predicting a slow down in 2011 and if the May sales are anything to go by, is this an indication of things to come? Of course, they must have prepared themselves for the same.
One noticeable point regarding the Chevrolet Beat is that even the LPG variant has failed to stop the decline in the sales.

Hi Ghodlur, nothing strange about it. I release numbers as I receive them. There are still a good number of manufacturers left. At the end of the day, it's only they who can provide these stats.

Re: May 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

FIAT India's monthly volume seems to have settled at 2000+ for the time being.

Linea seems to be the least-affected and ANHC the worst-affected due to Vento and ANHV effect.

Re: May 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Blockbuster opening by new Hyundai Verna I guess. The numbers should be better next month & should continue so. Fortuner @ 672 units !! So all deliveries are made in a months time or is it because of production cuts? Etios is picking up numbers too. Read somewhere they are ramping Etios production to full to reduce the wait period to just 1 month. Cruze still going strong. Vento also has a dip in sales & SX4 overtakes it. City meets the fate as expected.

Re: May 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

50 Kizashis sold - interesting.
Also - 12000+ swifts ! Are these older orders getting realized of people are still ordering the old swift even when the new one is around the corner?
Verna seems to be flying off the shelves! At this rate it would become as common as an i20 on roads!
I am praying for a Beat diesel with AT - don't think GM is going to make one though.

Re: May 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Beat is a really good car and with just 2136 units its time for GM India to launch the diesel version soon.
Figo's numbers have gone down from 7XXX to 5XXX !
Cruze and Laura are almost neck-to-neck and have out-sold the Corolla. Only 190 Civics! That's too bad.
170 Jazz' is really bad. Honda wake up now! Better late than never.
4357 Vernas!! Wow!!!
Superb's numbers are more than double of the Passat's.

Re: May 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Maruti Suzuki has bagged the first three positions this month, thanks to the Alto (25,393), Swift (12,742) and Wagon R (12,736). The legendary Swift has edged past the I10 and Wagon R to leap to the second spot.

The I10 has slipped from No 2 to No 4 in the May 2011 sales rankings and Hyundai has some serious work ahead to get the I10 back to its second position.

Re: May 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Verna is star of May sales without a doubt. Saw the car in person recently and was pretty impressed. Looks like it will surely will be the car to beat in the long run. Vento has to work a lot harder now and looks like discounts and offers on the Vento will start soon with the impending Fiesta launch. City is down but is still the car to beat in petrol sedans. Figo numbers look a bit disappointing.

@ GTO

Went thorugh AUTOCAR India May 2011.
Sales figure seem to differ in that with what is listed by you.

Noticably, Alto has done 38000 odd numbers as per Autocar May 2011 figures.

Feel really sad looking at HONDA and FIAT figures.

Re: May 2011 : Indian Car Sales Figures

Some take aways..

* Overall sales seems a bit down

* Commendable performance by MS - Swift is leading the pack!

* Tatas are down fair with Nano , Indica and Indigo combine.

* Honda seems to have a down slide more steep than expected!

* VW figures seems to have been stabilized

* Ford seems to have gone down with drooping Figo numbers. Hope the new Fiesta brings it on track.

* GM needs to bring the diesel Beat fast. No other models doing good for them.Poor Marketing ?

*Toyota has a good run with Etios.

Cheers!

I get a feeling that People who buy Fiat are in most cases people who go by the heart. they will continue to buy Fiats no matter what car is launched. Maybe thats why it isn't affected that much.

You might want to check again. Alto sold 38000 in April. Maybe Autocar is has realised the figures late in May which led you to believe that they are May car sales figures.
