Are we all sure that the "pick up" is really being launched? Who will buy such a thing? Sounds like a nightmare to me.

Actually it is the other way around. The Amby Mark1 had the Landmaster dashboard.

No Boss. The Landmaster and Ambassador dash boards are different. In earlier Ambassadors, even upto 80s if we remove the front plate (which holds the instrument cluster) you can see the landmaster dash frame. The meters in both cars were different (I am referring Mark I and early mark IIs) though both were of Smiths make.

You mean for the tax exemptions to kick in it has to be under 1500 cc for diesel & 1200 cc for the petrol and either way the car should be under or up to 4000mm length, correct?

We had a 62 Mark 1 Amby original which I sold in 2001. Loved the twin dials with the center clock. Another fantastic feature was the four knob switches with the key at the center. The switches were monogrammed. C for choke, H (or was it L) for headlight. I think there was a "S" for start? Cant remember. The twin gloveboxes were such a neat idea for a car having centrally placed dials. Even Etios and Vista does not have them.

There was a neighbor's Landmaster which had exactly the same dashboard like our Mark 1, not the like the picture you showed. Perhaps he had replaced the original with an Amby's.

Wish HM goes back to this setup instead of a cheap Maruti 800 like imitation dashboard.

No doubt a bold effort on H.M's part; but they need to think, how much market exists in India for a pickup truck? Apart from commercial usage, will this thing be able to score numbers in the passenger segment?

Instead of this, their R&D dept. should have been investing their time, money and efforts on replacing the Amby with newer models and engines. In the 2nd and 4th pics, it looks like a big metal tray has been kept on a solid black base. C'mon, even the vintage pickups have a better rear end.

And, don't tell me they are planning to put in that decades old Isuzu 2L diesel engine which pumps out a puny 50 bhp power for this iron horse!

Exactly The car has to be under 4m in length, and have engine capacity below 1200 cc for petrol engines or 1500 cc if it is a diesel engined car for it to avail the tax benefit.

The length is not going to be less than 4 metres, so whether they go for a 1500 cc or lesser capacity engine is not relevant.

And, the HM is better in doing worse than the worst.

The Head and park light switch is the ignition key combination one. Pull S for starting, W for wipers C for choke and P for panel light intensity control through a rheostat by turning. This set up continued in Mark II up to 1970 model when the key start was introduced. Then L was for lights, double step pull and the P there was for sitching ON?OFF the instrument lights. (P for panel).
