Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

Nice upgrade. Definitely a major one. Better than a lot of manufacturers who just advertise their cars with an "All New" badge or "Sportz" badge and give nothing other than stickers. The engine upgrade is worth mentioning.

I expected a better diesel engine as well. The same engine in Altis and Etios (in diesel avtar) will not look nice.

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

I was just seeing the prices of the New Altis Diesel and the Cruze and suddenly the Cruze feels even more VFM. Its a shocking move by Toyota in my opinion. Just have a look at the current prices:

Toyota Altis Diesel
Model Ex-Showroom Price
D-4D J - 11,46,500 ( taxi version)
D-4D G - 13,40,600
D-4D G(L) - 14,55,000

Chevrolet Cruze
Model Ex-Showroom Price
2.0 LT MT - 12,03,618
2.0 LTZ MT - 13,60,336
2.0 LTZ AT - 14,44,619

True, but I guess both these cars cater different sensibilities. The high-end Toyota Diesel will appeal to those who want the economy of diesel, and a supremely comfort ride in the back seat. It may be boring, but the reliability and hassle-free nature of an Altis is unmatched.

The diesel Altis' price was always way too high. Those prices would have looked good if there was a 2L engine under that hood. Engine-wise, the Cruz is miles ahead no doubt but looses out on resale value, reliability and higher overall running costs compared to the Altis. And yes, FE too.

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

Is FE over rated as a decision making parameter sometimes?

We are talking about a luxury segment. A person plonking down 15L for a car. Altis will return a mileage of around 13-14 kmpl? Cruze MT should give you around 10-11 kmpl I suppose. We can safely assume a difference of around 3-4 kmpl at the maximum and this too when the cars are totally city driven. How much does it save you at the end of the day? I am not very convinced. Ofcourse Altis rear seat comfort surely is a winner.

Having said all that I seriously feel that Toyota isn't selling many Diesel Altis. You hardly see them on the road also. The Indian buyer I feel is still fascinated by the product as a whole including the looks and equipment and most importantly WOW factor. All the above are missing in the Altis and Cruze is overflowing with them . Only a very very few people will genuinely buy the Altis Deisel only for its rear seat. You are infact better off in fact buying a Innova with captain seats!

ET is reporting the expected price of Liva to start around 4.1L. Got this image from there.

If Toyota manage to undercut the Swift with the Liva pricing, then this will be the car to watch out for in the segment. It will eat the unconventional Brio for breakfast. A competitively priced Liva diesel will be hard to beat. Maruti, Ford, GM and Nissan better be scared..

I guess the Liva will come with the petrol 1.2ltr engine and the diesel might take some time and maybe introduced later for the Etios sedan first. Only a petrol option might not land the killer blow but only help it get some decent volumes.

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

The rear tail lamps look like Chinese verion of the Corolla, but the front end of the face lifted version is really nice. And does anyone have the increae in price for the face lifted version over the previous version?

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

Got the below info from Sirish, Overdrive via tweets.
Quote:
  • Drove Liva over weekend in B'lore. Works brilliantly for India! Surprisingly spacious, rides well, looks much better than sedan.
  • Liva not sporty but brilliant for city - light, effortless, refined, comfy. At 4lakh will worry Figo, Swift, i10, Polo et all
  • Engine OK by 1.2 standards; has lost zing of Etios' 1.5 mileage should be very good tho New swift will have 90PS 1.2 & will be far quicker

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

Personally I feel the Liva looks much better than the Etios sedan.
But just thinking aloud – why Toyota had to do so much of research and come up with an India specific car like Liva, when they have already this (see attached pic: the latest gen Toyota Yaris) in their portfolio?

Pure speculation and nothing else on play here. Have we heard any horror stories on Cruze reliability or its maintenance costs?

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

Maybe cause there is a lakh difference above the Etios Liva and also most of the components would have to be imported, but other than that i too feel the Yaris would have been better except for the cost benefit.

Re: New Altis Launch 16th June !!! New Liva Launch 27th June

I personally own a 2004 Corolla and can safely say that the mileage (11-13 kmpl with AC) and comfort a 7 years old car is giving to me even today is unmatchable by any other brand in the country today (except perhaps the beemers and the pointed stars). We just can even start to compare the Toyota brand with the likes of Cruze et al.

The Liva IMHO looks much better than the saloon. But bringing the Yaris here would not have been a value proposition.

The upgrades to the ICE and other small nick-nacks should be implemented immediately with its higher models like the Fortuner otherwise people who have booked the Fortuner (like me) will feel short-changed.

And all the people who comment things like "still lacks character" (like the Autocar people) really dont seem to have owned one. Own a Toyota once and you will be its fan forever. I shifted from a Honda City to a Corolla and believe me I ain't going back...
