Why is the resale value of Civic Hybrid so low? Does it require replacement of batteries every X years?

Am penning a test drive / ownership report. I would take couple of weeks to have a good understanding about the hybrid. Meanwhile I would use the price check thread http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...hread-205.html to answer questions

My old war horse now serves new owner

Hi guys,

I just sold my beloved 1996 Esteem.( Its now 1,30,000 on the ODO )

http://classifieds.team-bhp.com/buy-...i/Esteem.html/

This car had served me well for 5 years and in the last 5 years it clocked more than 70k on the Odo.

Me and my friends and family members shared lots of good times in this car. My main reason for selling this car was that it was not being used anymore since I purchased one more car for family use. And I did not wish to see it gathering dust in the garage.
I wish the new owner happy ownership and trouble free more miles from this car.
Before i handed over the car a few things which i added/Got done.

1) New set of tyres for front ( Vee runner-Thailand make-2100 each)
2) Complete service,All lubes top up
3) Fitness certificate ( Cost me 1 day leave and 800 rs )
4) Wheel alignment
5) 1 parking lamp buld replacement
6) Remote battery for music player

6 months back i had got the front windsheild replaced and added new battery also.

Now the interesting part is.... The new owner happens to be my neighbour by accident. Yes, he had seen the ad in the internet and came to see the car. When i told him my house address he mentioned that he is soon going to shift to a rented house in the same road.

Well my car is in front my sight always and i am not going to miss it.

I had advertised in a few websites including TBHP classifieds. Got many enquires and many people test drove the car and said its a good car. But negotiated very badly ( humiliating ).
My AC mechanic, Sticker shop guy, and some others offered 50k.

Went to Kalyani motors for exchange and they quoted 40k. I got offers upto 65k and 75k from some buyers. But finally i settled for 80K with this new owner. Some people may feel its overpriced, but please show me a similar car at this price and let me see.

Re: My old war horse now serves new owner

rvmohankumar - Many congratulations on the sale. I must say you got a good price. Honestly, I did not know that the difference between the dealers and individuals could be this high. E.g. I got quotes of upto 45K for my 2003 Corsa and I sold it to an individual at 55K (in hindsight, I think I got the pricing wrong)

Good luck to you.

Re: Used car price statistics : How much did you buy / sell yours for?

Model, Variant & Color : M 800 (with AC), Green, 1997 model

First ownership Date : About June 1997, iirc

Then I bought this car at this stage below

Second ownership Date, Mileage, Price : Nov 2000, about 15,000 kms+ on the odo iirc, Rs 157,000

I sold this car at this stage below

Third Ownership Date, Mileage, Price : Dec 2007, about 59,000 kms on the odo, Rs 50,000

Brief Quantitative and qualitative comment:

M800 started giving problems after her 4th year with annualized spend of atleast 8000 - 10,000. She served us well on highways and in the city with decent mileage. However started feeling unsafe with the car, driving in rains became difficult with poor night lighting and road visibility. Decided to sell after a near brush.

Sold for Rs 50,000 to a known person although had a market offer for Rs 60,000...

Will not buy it again because I feel it's not a safe car, though had very memorable experiences with her.

Cheers,
