Re: The New 2011 Audi A6. EDIT : Launch on 3rd August, 2011

For all those who are waiting for an Indian review, the AutoCar Show is pitting the new A6 Diesel against the 530D & E350 CDI today. Don't know which variant of the Audi though.

10:30PM on Bloomberg UTV.

1. It IS a tiptronic.
2. Audi provided 6-speed tiptronics on all 2010 and pre-2010 3.0 TDI models so probably you might not have heard of it
3. I cant possibly push my car beyond 250 thanks to the limiter and if i cant engage 7th at that speed that i dont know where is the secret 7th ratio hidden. lol

@deetjohn
The star and the propeller would be pitted against the A6 3.0 TDI

Re: The New 2011 Audi A6. EDIT : Launch on 3rd August, 2011

i<3turbo,

I assume you are associated with Audi in some way?

Could you answer these questions if you are aware?

1. Why did Audi skip on the electrical steering column adjuster on the A6?
2. Why did they not have the full chrome grill on the A6?

I understand rear screens are optional, so could you tell me how much will it cost including the DVD players?

Regards,

It is still a mystery why audi skipped out on it again. We had the same questions when we went for training at the skoda saipl plant. Some trainers say less electronics in the car the better i dont why lol.
Outside india the A6's have them but in india ofcourse we get the Stripped down version.

The cost for the lcd screens which are also portable cost 1,27,100 lacs for a pair.

This thread is all about the A6, but I have with me a brochure of the A4 which reads "valid from August 2010", and it says 7 Speed S Tronic for the A4 3.0TDI and Tiptronic for 3.2FSI, and Multitronic for all other engine variants.

Since you own an example, and you are an enthusiast, to even suggest that you check the manual/ spec- sheet would be inappropriate and rude.

Anyway, an interesting discussion between two people who both own A4's and Civics!

A real deal breaker is the LED setup is not standard you have to pay 2,80,000 for it.

Yeah, too costly, but those LED headlights look real cool. I am eager to see how they light up the road. I have only seen the LED DRLs till now.

Well, that one is a glorious inline six, isn't it? One of best ever configurations for the IC engine.

How was the experience? I can't wait for monday to come ..

530d is the enthusiasts delight, torque monster, in-line six and not in Vee, RWD instead of an AWD, and don't even get me started on the level of kit that comes standard. Unlike the Audi's insanely priced optional packages, and ofcourse the optional headlights as well .

Even without the added expensive goodies the standard A6 comes pretty loaded and will keep owners more than happy on the gadgetry front. Best example being, the LED headlamps are an expensive option agreed, but for owners who do not opt for them, they will be getting the 'standard' adaptive xenons which is the only option on the 530d . What is wrong with them ? Until the LED technology started, Xenons were THE lights to have in any high end car. They still do the job excellently. Similarly on most fronts, the A6 would be loaded. No causes for concern as such.

Re: The New 2011 Audi A6. EDIT : Launch on 3rd August, 2011

Fascinating thread. The "lightweight A6" adverts have been appearing in the papers for the past couple of weeks and I thought it meant they are launching a CE for the A6! Turns out it's literally "lightweight" thanks to aluminium or whatever.

Still confused over the S-tronic, tiptronic, DSG debate- what's the conclusion? Is S-tronic same as DSG? And what is multitronic?

Re: The New 2011 Audi A6. EDIT : Launch on 3rd August, 2011

S-tronic is audi's dsg. Vw and skoda use the tag dsg audi uses s-tronic. Multitronic is cvt.

By the way guys, the launch in mumbai will be held at amw's showroom. Its gonna be a 2 day event 10-10pm. August 10-12.

Re: The New 2011 Audi A6. EDIT : Launch on 3rd August, 2011

I am mighty impressed by the A6's looks and quality. The ACI's august issue has the comparo between the A6, E class and the 5 series. My take away from that article was that the A6 has the competition pinned down as far as the interior quality is concerned, which is a key selling point for the cars in the Luxury segment. It has the better compromise between ride and handling, performs better than the Merc, IMHO looks the best too, both inside and out
I really like AUDI's new focus and direction, the Beemer looks confused and is losing what used to be its fort - Handling! Mercedes looks to be a bit too relaxed and isn't really puling its socks up i feel. Just my opinion though.

Re: The New 2011 Audi A6. EDIT : Launch on 3rd August, 2011

PlatzdaTurbo,

Not doubting the fact that the A6 is an awesome car, but trust me keeping the car aside do think of it a little practically considering these cars sell at similar prices across the world and I assume it's only due to the new Engine norms that this car is a little expensive.

If you think of the standard A6 3.0 TDI, it maybe loaded but one thing is there are hardly any allotments for standard car most come with at least 2 packages (this may vary with regions but then buying this car basic makes no sense as you will lose a lot of things which make the experience better, and the fact that you will not even be able to get a larger screen upfront without the MMI touch, and the fact that you will not be able to add rear screens which are optional even after the additional multimedia package which only includes preparation.

And without the LED lights trust me it just does not look dynamic enough, but even if you think of deleting the LED lights, there is a difference of 6.2 Lac INR in the on road price and it's not like the 530d is inferior, it may lack a few things here and there but you gain a lot standard and its only due to BMW assembling engines and getting lower CKD rates. And some of the gains on the 530d are very unique and some very useful,

Here's the gains assuming you take all packages on A6 besides LED

1. HUD (This is a cool feature to have esp. now with navigation)
2. Rear Screen Entertainment, and they are the best screen integration in all 3.
3. Navigation System ( some may say it's not that useful but so are a lot other things)
4. Comfort Key (Only for the ignition)

Losses are:

1. Adaptive Air Suspension with Ride height, (This is a huge + for A6 to raise the car)
2. Quattro, (but then a lot will prefer RWD, subjective so no point in debating)

Make no mistake A6 is brilliant not doubting that at all but so is the BMW 530d, I am only saying the car has a very good competition and Audi India should have figured a way to get the engines etc. assembled locally as the entire price rise is only due to that and nothing else. And I am told by the dealer that will happen in coming months,

Just for reference here are OTR prices for Audi A6 3.0 TDI & BMW 530d

Audi A6 (Incl LED) - 60,98,000 INR (No discounts being a new product)
BMW 530d - 52,48,000 INR (Incl of 2.0 Lac discount)
Mercedes-Benz E350 CDI Avantgarde 55,34,000 INR (Incl 2.0 Lac discount)

Regards,

Re: The New 2011 Audi A6. EDIT : Launch on 3rd August, 2011

^^good points brought up. The A6 does have a convience key standard (push button start).

The A6 will be more pricey intially just like anyother new car that launches. I am pretty sure they will lower prices down the line.
