Hrag, it's no big deal. My Ford Escort had the controls on the "wrong side". Now my Optra does. It's really not rocket science, you get used to it within a few hours of driving. No need to get Indian pride all offended.

I'm not blowing this out of proportion but are there any examples of RHD stalks in an LHD market? There should be some reason for the stalks being different for LHD and RHD markets. Anyone know what this is?

The stalk on the correct side is important to me, which is why I responded only on that aspect. I haven't seen the Aveo yet.

I have seen the car at showroom but not driven it yet.

I am totally disappointed with the Aveo :-
- luxury sedan w/o A/C but all other power controls
- 1.4 mid variant is only 90K less than Honda City so y not go for City.
- the car does seem impressive on the internal finish but the metal is as light as City. However in this respect Fiesta' body is rock solid just like the FIATs.
- the top ver of 1.4 just 40K less than City ... if i can recollect correctly Optra 1.6 was being offered at 7 ex showroom as GM's scheme.

GM's optra clicked bcoz the pricing was right compared to the Elantras and Octavias which are also in its league but i suspect a similar success for Aveo bcoz its not priced right.

Another point i have is that why spend money on brand ambassadors rather price your car 30K less and give it the initial boost in sales and thereafter the momentum will continue.

I personally would not invest so much for a Korean car when i can get a City with few extra bucks and its worth it bcoz its Japanses and a brand to reckon in this segment as there arent any offerings from Skoda, Toyota in this segment. At last City will hold its value even after 5 years of usage but cant say the same about this Daewoo car GUISED as CHEVROLET.

Wat say ???

firstly, NHC is not the best car ever made. its not a benchmark for comparision.its slow and ugly looking!

and the future belongs to korean car companies. see how hyundai have grown when compared to Ford, which is struggling with financial problems.

Korean cars are customised for India. Thats y both the accent and santro are top selling

I wouldn't put a car down solely because it is Korean in origin. Daewoo has made some pretty good cars, they only went bankrupt because of politics. Hyundai is all set to become the No.1 car manufacturer in India within the next few years.

How does the ARAI homologate these cars? Dont they have minimum standards? I know we dont enforce safety standards like other markets, but we could AT LEAST enforce RHD controls for this LHD Market.

I'd like to see GM and Ford sell RHD control cars in an LHD market.

Its not about Indian pride, its about maintaining basic standards. If these jokers cant even be bothered to put their indicators in the right place, how can they go around with this 'made for india' campaign of theirs?

i think enforcement of safety standards gets more of a priority than LHD and RDH controls, and if they dont enforce safety standards u really expect any1 to be bothered about RHD and LHD ???

EXACTLY !!

IMHO opinion gone are the days when u could go gaga about jap cars or saying korean cars suck.whether it be the engine or design.

the engine has always been the main point of focus in these jap cars, but just look at the cars other non-jap companies manufacture these days, and have done over the last half decade or so. i would no longer put my money on honda over say , ford/GM just because honda is jap . IMHO there is not much between ford, hyundai, honda ,toyota or any other major brand at the moment in terms of 'cutting edge engine technology' that was ,righty attributed to the japanese 'once upon a time' ... but not anymore . it is only with the current crop of cars in the indian market that the jap myth lives on ... because honda has its best here ... the VTEC every1 drools over. do a little research and you will find , though the first , VTEC is not the only thing out there , and neither is it the best. all companies have some form of variable valve/cam timing technology. and they are darn good at it . do a accord 2.4 vtec vs camry 2.4 vvt for instance.

compare the NHC VTEC with say, the ford focus 1.6 TiVCT and you'll find that you wouldn't be able to go around using the usual 'jap engines are better than american ones anyday' dialogue.

even when it comes to the current crop of cars in the indian market, a true reflection of the old 'jap rulez' myth is seen , when people write off the aveo without even test driving it , just becaue of its 'korean' origins.

I very well know that Honda City is not a well built car however i still stick and stand to what i said and i am sure many true auto enthusiasts would agree to it that Automobile engineering is associated with the Japanese and the Europeans not even the Americans.

But then as its said that "When in Rome do what the Romans do"

Likewise considering the options available in India in my budget i would buy either of the Koreans - Accent or a Chevy Aveo so when in India buy what the Koreans make.

true. koreans make vfm cars.. you get more than wat u give.

same with optra or elantra, for around 10laks i get a 13-14lak car with excellent build and features

the brand name would come into picture when we consider 25lak+ cars. but for < 15laks, we're lookin at getting most out of our money
