from the figures that are on the chevrolet website - the aveo 1.6 seems to have 102 bhp on-board and 14.7 kgm of torque (though there was no inkling as to @ what rpm) and a total weight of just 1090 kgs
the above figures should make the power+torque/weight ratio right next to the NHC VTEC or the baleno - now i wonder if this can be a performance car ...
anybody taken a test-ride of aveo 1.6 yet - am waiting eagerly for the feedback
In today's TOI, Honda dealers are giving away Free insurance for City Zx for "limited period", a la maruti style. Guess they are feeling the heat from Fiesta and now Aveo.

BS Motoring test drove the 1.6 and this is what they have to say.

According to the report peak power comes at about 5800 rpm and 0 - 100 takes about 11.81 secs.
The Car is available for test drive in the showrooms. I am going tomorow and will find out more with pics.
The Top of the line Aveo will cost Rs. 8 Lacs but will be loaded with everything.

11.81 s should put it right next to Fiesta 1.6, but still somewhat short of a baleno or a vtec
Buttt - what they also said was that at lower rpms, the engine feels sluggish a-la optra (the same engine), and the VGIS kicks in at around 4000 rpm, for that surge of power.
If only they could tweak down that VGIS to kick in earlier, or when the pedal if fully floored ....
lets hope gm this time gives us a complete car in all aspects
The specs look quite good .. and the prices too .. GM should have a winner here.
IMO it's a good strategy to focus more on the variants of the 1.4 .. hence keeping costs down .. it should appeal more to the masses .. 1.4 , 92bhp should suffice for amost all practical day-to-day use ..
well the 1.6 VGIS from the optra , tweaked to suit the car might very well be darn quick ... ya not by vtec n baleno standards.
lets wait for official pricing of all models ... and some milage figures to come in.
looks to be a promising package like the fiesta.
the entry level Aveo, doesn't even have an AC! What a way to lure people by saying 'starts at 5.54 L' for a model that will have no takers.

well thats rather hard to believe ... really ... that cant be true
the next level model with ac..etc is 20k away
the lowest model wit no ac is not yet released

I may go tommorow with my frnd for test drive.. looks nice.. but price is too high.. though he can get 50k off on the price.. :)
Power of 1.4 is good.. Ford should learn.. hehe..
