The Tall Boy design always allows the engineer to have more headroom and compensate for the space available lengthwise and breadthwise. This can help one get out of the claustrophobic experiences if that person is stout and 6 feet+ like me.

You can take the case of Tata Nano. The space it offers inside seems to be huge compared to what it seems to be from outside.

IMO the small cars are better be tallboys and longer bigger cars can be floor kissers.

They claim this Alto800 will be positioned above Alto because:

"The 2012 Maruti Alto 800 comes with a brand new dashboard that looks more upmarket than the bare basic unit of the Alto F8D.
* Power windows are standard on (Alto800).
* The Alto 800 gets a driver side airbag, and this is a feature that is not available even on the more powerful Alto K10.
* The Alto 800 also seems bigger than the Alto F8D in terms of the room offered on the interiors.
* The instrumentation used on the Alto 800 are a step up from the bare basic units found on the Alto F8D."

They also mention that current Alto will be positioned lower.
what exactly is the rationale to continue the Alto F8D after the new Alto800 is released? Can't they have a no-frills version of the new Alto800 to replace the Alto F8D?

Its about time the dash started looking more presentable.

An essential feature. If its present in the top-end Nano, no reason it shouldn't be standard on the Alto800.

If they DO add driver side airbag to Alto800, the same would start appearing in the Alto K10 as well.

Again, these were essential enhancements.

The current Alto will be phased out and the new one takes its place.

They have done the same many times. First, the M800 & the Zen (albeit with 1000cc engine to differentiate), then the Esteem & Baleno (with bigger engine), then the M800 & Alto800 & now the Alto800 & AltoK10B.

Add to this chassis & parts sharing that not only Maruti, but other manufacturers also do on a regular basis.

This is nothing but product differentiation, just to make the customer believe there is more on offer under the same roof... why go elsewhere .

Thanks for the link!

The exterior image looks more appealing than earlier images, IMO. But brown interiors? A big no from me.

The interiors look much better in this shade as opposed to dull grey all around. The silver inserts on the centre panel add to this. But the top part of the dash should have been in a darker colour as beige reflects like crazy in bright sunlight. Also they could have chosen a better design for the seat upholstery than this silly looking 'abacus' thing.

Relieved to see internally adjustable ORVMs on BOTH sides and a map pocket (for the driver, at least). This seems to be the top end model (Vxi?) as the music system and speakers seem to be factory-fitted. There is still no provision on the bumpers for the front fog lamps though.

If this is going to be posited below the k10, then they better clear the remaining stocks of the existing Alto k10 and plonk that engine into this upgraded chassis with much better interior design in the near future.

Yes this seemingly is the top end version, but, as posted earlier the driver's airbags do not seem to be an option even in this one, unlike the earlier images where there was airbags inscribed on the steering.

Moreover, the AC vents are similar to those on Xylo, so Maruti Suzuki have managed to pull off copied interiors for this one.

"Nothing original about it"

"The company will launch an all-new Alto 800 next month to replace the existing Alto as the company seeks to overcome tough market conditions, especially high petrol price and interest rates that have hurt the sales of small cars. It is also offering CNG option in the new Alto 800."

The current Alto F8D is the best car for first time users for its superior compact dimensions.

re: New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20

The car does look ugly, the current alto looks better than this. This looks like a toy produced from an 'one-night mistake' between an Eon and a Figo.

Maruti please dont phase out the Alto k-10 atleast, its a lot more matured looking car than this one.

So, will they price it below the alto F8?(from the looks it seems so)

If its correct then bang on, it will start selling from day one. Navratra would be ON then and well its said that buying a car in this period is really good. Seems like Maruti wants to Storm the market again. Just hope it over-priced and things don't go as expected. Just hate its design. Exterior combination of Figo and i10. Ac Vents taken from Xylo, music system looks really dated for once I was confused and it looked more like a cassette player. Maruti's designer are on holiday so seems like they just visited the market, looked at all the cars and made a combination of all into one.

re: New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20

So the New Maruti 800 so far...

1. Hood lines and front lip from the Figo
2. Bumper design from the Renault Pulse
3. AC vents from the Xylo
4. Rear profile from the A*

Did I miss anything on the list?

Looks to be a nice cocktail

re: New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20

Few details about the new M800 as per the Newspaper:

1. It will be 15 mm taller than Alto;
2. There will be slightly more legroom as compared to Alto;
3. All tyres will be tubeless;
4. Top version gets front power windows;
5. Top version gets airbags as an option;
6. Mileage on Petrol is 22.74 kmpl;
7. Mileage on CNG is 30.46 kmpkg;
8. Expected launch 16 Oct 12; &
9. New interiors, but, plastic quality isn't much better over Alto.

Maruti Suzuki also says that the car is designed keeping in mind the current trends & demands of young drivers. There wasn't a single word on pricing of the car.
