This news is going to make me hold on to my 15 year oldie 800 even more. It's sad though the car will be stopped being in production but i guess it's time had come.

Re: New Maruti 800

I feel like buying a new one , for some emotional reasons. to me its a perfect car for its price. The driving and comfort characteristics of the car are unmatched for its size and cost.

I own a mpfi version which is being driven by a friends brother for two years , havent sold it.Yes its a niggle free car and one which costs peanuts to own ,run and maintain .

Aka green revolution , milk revolution , this car brought CAR REVOLUTION to india.

Here I give a well deserved bow to all responsible for designing and producing this marvel.

Re: New Maruti 800

Truly an icon. Was in fact a luxury car when it was introduced mainly because of unavailability. Indians learned what to expect from a modern car through 800.

I saw an old Maruti 800 with a matte sand-colored paint in Hyderabad. In a city where bumps, scratches, and rubs with other cars are so common, it would help to have something that I can just drive back from, pull out a paint can and spray over the paint scratch. The trips to the workshop can get quite expensive if one has to visit every other month for a pearly silver Swift, for instance.

Luxury in those days indeed. When my dad bought a 800 during my school days it was talk of the area. My school friends wouldn't believe me when I told them our 800 costed less than the Amby

Re: New Maruti 800

Even after all these years, i still think it is one of the most driveable cars in the city. very easy to maneuver thru tight traffic, hope the replacement is as good. I wonder if they plan to use the existing chassis, since it looks like they will be rummaging thru their parts bin?

Get the type I 800 back 1987 to 1997 and put alto engine and offer ac / power steering as optional and sell it at nano + 25000 price . Nano will be dead . (No offence to nano owners please )

Re: New Maruti 800

The car shown in the Autocar thread is definitely the new Alto/800 replacement as informed by my friends who work at Maruti. Apparently, its totally indegenously designed and developed with minimal support of parent Suzuki. Heard that this car has got more leg room and headroom as compared to the outgoing car. And yes its based on the existing Alto platform. And apparently its lighter, stronger and has more FE than the outgoing vehicle.

If true, then shame on you Maruti - for designing such an uninspiring car, even after coming up with a surprise package like Ertiga. Better to introduce it as another model of Alto - say Alto Big - and not to replace the current compact one.

Re: New Maruti 800

Dont really see a point in having a revamped alto based M800 even if with an 800 cc engine. The bigger question is how they would differentiate this from the Alto itself. Instead an effort like that of the Hundai with the Eon is more appreciable.

Re: New Maruti 800

From what I have heard, a target price of 1.6-2 lakh is under discussion. Speculation, still, obviously.

Re: New Maruti 800

Why does Maruti have to call it the 800! If the 800 marque has to go on, why not instead create a premium inspired version like how VW did with the new Beetle. I'm really doubtful about the indigenous Maruti design. Hope it doesn't turn out anything like the the horrendous boot job of the Dzire.

1.6 -2 ? Cervo looks a decently built car, which should not cost below 2.5 IMO for base version.
