Surprising that they are only giving a single DIN stereo slot in this day and age.

Just saw the advertisement of this on TV. Teaser shots, only the headlamps.

re: New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20 - Now Launched

The spy car shows Mix-n-match of Improvements as well as cost-saving measures with
Improvements like:
-Improved & more refined 796cc engine(yes we need to include the improvement costs).
-Reworked Transmission with New Cable operated gearshift with Detent pin tech.
-Front Power windows in LXi variant.
-Fabric lined door trims in LXi variant.
-Internally operated ORVM.
-Internally operated rear bootlid.
-Body coloured bumpers for LXi variant.
-Wheel covers for LXi variant.
-Chrome laden Inside door handles in LXi variant.
-3-spoke steering wheel across LX & LXi variants.

Cost cutting bits includes:
-Door pads are more basic now, as previously they were better in design with moulded trimmed looks.
-Dashboard in no doubt new, but is more basic in design & construction now, than Old Alto as previous one was having more small panels assembled together.
-Overall length of the car is reduced to 3395mm(same as M800) as against 3495mm of previous Alto/Zen/Wagon-R. This might have reduced the 100mm body parts usage during its construction.

So with all these speculation, I still suspect the New Alto to be atleast 10k expensive over the Std & LX variants & around 20-25k expensive for LXi variant(as compared to old Alto) to justify the new feature list.
Airbag equipped LXi(Option) to be another 10-15k more than LXi variant but still Maruti Suzuki seems to have done enough to liven up this segment again.

The Alto K10 will receive this update or is going to remain the same?

The Alto K10 doesn't even get feature upgrades ? Since Alto800 has an airbag, Alto K10 must be introduced with ABS/EBD + Airbags combo.

Completely agree, the price of Alto 800 will be hiked by at least 25,000 INR for the top end variant and well it would come near to the K10 which is not a good sign for both the cars. I would say Maruti should upgrade the feature list in the K10. Offer a music system with 2 Speakers, Power windows, ABS should be made standard on the top end variant and Airbags could be optional. A/C should get defogger too! A price hike of 15-20k would justify that I guess.

Bookings are now open.

"What does the soon-to-be-launched Maruti Alto 800 have in common with Windows 7 and the collector's edition 3DBlu-Ray DVD of the film 'Avatar'? Like the Windows operating system and the Blu-Raydisc of the James Cameron movie, Maruti's new version of its existing base model can be pre-ordered. That, in effect, means that consumers can book the car online even before its launch and without knowing the actual price tag (which is expected to begin in the sub-2 lakh zone)."

Dealer receiving huge number of bookings it seems

I managed to click (attached) some pictures of to be launched Alto 800.

-There were at least 70-80 cars in the yard
- White, blackish grey, sky blue & cherry red colors were there
- 145/80/R12 Bridgestone TURANZA ER60
- There was NO Airbag option in CNG Lxi variant
- Good head and leg room in front row
- Ddecent space and seat quality in rear
- Almost zero boot space in CNG; adequate boot space in Petrol one
- Black & grey interiors; grey door fabric
- Effective AC with powerful air throw
- Combined (Petrol & CNG) digital display meter (fuel, mileage, etc)

Overall an excellent package.

Cheers,
Deepak

I always used to say that Maruti should've given power steering in its once-upon-time hot cake 800. A power steering in this cute little foal could have worked like horns on the heads of a horse.

Now with this new Alto, I think, Maruti is going to lead the market again beating the cluttered but feature rich Eon.

Caught the teaser-advertisement for the new Alto 800 during the T20 World Cup matches today. Looks like it's only going to be a matter of time before the Figo inspired Maruti hits the showrooms.

We did have power steering in our 2000-2001 5-speed MPFI Maruti 800 EX (non-AC). And I must say it was the best generation of 800 ever. A year or two later Alto came into picture and they started to bill the 800 as a cheap entry-level car under the Alto (indirectly to help boost Alto sales), stripping it off power steering and the 5-speed gearbox that used to consistently deliver mileage around 15 mixed.

Hi MHG, was the power steering company or after market fitting?

AFAIK, M800 never came with PS.

Why is the front "S" logo not uniform? Looks awkwardly warped; as a Superman's "S". The Front looks very similar to the figo. I wonder why maruti chose to copy design cues from the little ford, while other contemporary looking cars are abundant in the market. The side looks like a hybrid of alto and a star! The rear wheel well resembles a higher suspension setup, which doesn't give a planted stance.

Given the Dealer network and people's trust, Maruti has a sure shot winner in its hands if priced sensibly.

It'd be better if someone confirms. All I remember is the car used to be very easy to drive and the steering was not as hard as it is on the newer 800's. Sadly its sold now and replaced by a Hyundai i20.
