I am pretty sure that M800 never had any power steering system. It was non assisted steering from day 1. Yet the steering was quite direct, one would know even if there is a stone under front wheels. Accurate, easy, direct and fun, and thats why I still believe that M800 was the car best for Indian city conditions. Easy to repair, small size means you can take it almost anywhere, not to expensive to run or maintain.

re: New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20 - Now Launched

I'm not much up-to-date about the launch of this new Alto 800 car, but from last few posts it appears yet to be launched.
Yesterday (2nd Oct) only, I found few trucks unloading some them at Maruti dealer in Bavdhan, Pune. I slowed down bit with confusion with this smallish looking A-star but haven't cared to click with assumption that it must have launched without my knowledge.

I own a 2001 M800 MPFI version (still!!)
One of the major grouse I have with this car is the lack of power steering.

OK sorry for the confusion/misinformation then. But I never felt the slightest sense of hardness in using the steering back when we still had the 800 a couple of years back. I was then rather ill-informed I suppose, and the ease of steering this car might have misled me.

That could be the reason. M800 has light steering. I also own a 2001 5-speed model which does not have PS.

As per ACI the new alto 800 will be priced in the range Rs.2.6-3.2 lakh (ex-showroom). See their latest article on the same:

I heard that the prices for the new Alto will be hiked by 30,000 INR. So, top variant is expected to price around 3.85 OTR Mumbai which I feel is a bit expensive for an Alto. I would instead prefer Eon or a Spark at least they look good!

The launch is confirmed on 16th october. Confirmed it from S. K. Wheels Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. The bookings have started. Let's see if Maruti breaks some booking records considering the features in the car.

re: New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20 - Now Launched

Looks odd and confused in certain angles. Overall it does look good but not as 'sleek' as current Alto K10. I like the way AltoK10 looks. Its the best looking 'Alto' after 'Zen'.

Current Alto 800cc starts at Rs. 2.6 lakh and Alto K10 at 3.30 lakh so I would guess new Alto800 to start at 2.75 lakh.

Why not they replacing the whole Alto range with this one? I mean have Alto800 and Alto1000 based on this new avatar?

IMO if priced sensibly this would break all sales records.

What's with the obsession with a hexagonal front? Almost all Hyundai cars have it and now the Alto sports it as well. Are Suzuki designers running out of ideas or does Suzuki want Alto to look like a sibling of the Eon?

Let's hope the interiors, fit and finish are as good as the Eon. I'm sure the Alto will have, as always, a lot many takers from Day 1.

Looking good from sides. Has awkward looks from some angles. Boot space is decent, IMO.

The pictures somehow remind me of sipani Montana.. The older guys in the forum would remember this car it came with a funny shape, Fibre body and an awkward bonnet opening. Not impressed at all. Eon looks so much better and we'll designed. This is a result of maruti Indian design cell. Eeks

Was able to see the car in person.

Boot space is decent for the size of the car.

Car looks smaller than Alto and the rear seat seems to be narrower than current alto IMO.

Somehow the design makes the car look timid.
