re: New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20 - Now Launched

The car looks - SAD!
Base design is similar to A-Star (IMHO a bad design too!) with elements of i10, i20 and Figo thrown in for the worse. Overall, I guess people who are looking at a better design and features in the Alto segment, might be more tempted by the Hyundai Eon. Purely my wish though.

Looks ugly, is as cramped as the earlier model but India will lap it up

So much for the teaser ads playing on tv nowadays. Saw a number of new alto 800's at Vipul Motors Noida. Really disappointed, though. To me, the car doesn't look great in the flesh! You'd think Maruti would match up to their competitors, design wise! The front headlamps are the best aspect of the design to my eye.

re: New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20 - Now Launched

On the contrary, to me its a step ahead in terms on of the lines on the car. Like the swift I guess the new design will take to settle in. Its not a cute like Nano design, but it is feeling to me like the design might grow on me. Anyways now a days facelifts are almost done every alternate years (atleast on the exteriors) so I would see some correction in soon if the design is really rejected. If the Eon can have a similar treatment, why should the new Alto not from A-Star (well, saying that A-Star has a neat design is not saying much).
To me I was looking at a Maruti Eon, simply from a maintenance angle for a second car, this suits well, did not want a Nano (for obvious reasons).
So this might be a seller, if not a trend setter.

I am a little discouraged with this facelift. If Maruti with a guaranteed running sales of
240,000 units per annum could not spare the efforts and attention to ensure atleast an average design, it speaks volumes of the relevance of design in the scheme of things.

Indeed. This looks a lot better than the one with the blue color!

The official Website now says '04 days to go.'

And they seem to have launched FB, Twitter, and Youtube pages.

I strongly suggest Maruti not to phase out current F8D Alto, and wait until the sales of this new car catches up (if it can).

Or, they can do the following:

1. Phase out current Alto F8D, and bring it as the new 800 replacement at a price range of 1.8 - 2.5L.

2. Phase out Estilo and bring a 1000CC K-series engined version of this car with bigger wheels and blackened B-pillar, and let it co-exist with current AltoK10 in slightly higher price range.

3. Modify A-Star thoroughly, lengthen it, and make it a true Zen-successor!

^^^ With M800 production stopped, I think MSIL would anyway push down the Alto F8D to fill in the vacant slot of the M800. Ofcourse, it would help if they drop the prices too.

BS Motoring review shows a car with grey interiors and mentions in the review that interior options are grey and beige. Wonder what happened to the the brown interiors shown in one of the earlier pages.

Is brown the new beige?

+10

Cant agree more. I also thinks on the similar lines. They should not phase out current alto 800. It will be nice if they sell it as new M800. It will keep sales chart going. Estilo i don't think will pick up now, so better phase it out. A*, they need to completely redesign it & make sure its more value for money. Currently its too cramped.

The tail gate has got dents on it, or is it there by design as in Ritz?

^^ Looks like a design element, not a dent.

re: New Maruti Alto 800. EDIT : CLEAR scoop pictures on Page 18 & 20 - Now Launched

Saw this being reviewed by a news channel. Overall, I did not find it ugly. May not be a good looking car but not an ugly one. I never liked the looks of first gen Alto though.
