2011 VW Phaeton major facelift officially unveiled
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/phaeton-gp-iii

The car is a well engineered financial dodo. It shares a lot of components with the Bentley Continental. Actually, some Bentleys are assembled in the Dresden factory. Only place where it has been successful has been in S Korea and Taiwan.

Most Phaetons have been sold at discounts to various government fleets and VW employees.

So for 50L should one buy it over an Audi or Merc ? Well it still looks like a Passat and it is less competent dynamically. only worth it if you favour space and luxury. But luxury and status almost come together, leading to confusion leading to more worthy choices.

It's true. There's a Phaeton in Cochin which was bought some time back. I heard that the offer the buyer got was 25L off or VW Beetle free!! And he took the cash discount.

Oh , can't believe it. It's the biggest discount that i ever heard of.
Read of discounts varying from 1lakh to 6 lakhs, but 25 LAKHS!!! And why are they offering it if not for stock clearance? They could simply phase it out quietly.

Its true..we got our Phaeton in the family for on road 55 lakhs, the car being good and with nice features just has not caught on with the masses and its price tag surely keeps everyone away.

That's a good offer. But it sounds more like 'Buy one flop car, get a smaller flop free!!' :D

The article does not say anything about a 3.6? It might be the 3.0tdi too. But that is a hugeeeee discount. I think it would now be gobbled up at 55l, since there are enough in that segment looking only for space and luxury.

For a handbuilt car like the Phaeton, this is a staggering discount! The car is very understated but oozes luxury. But I am sure very few inventories are left since the all new Phaeton has started getting manufactured at Dresden now.

@Speedy....congrats on the buy! 55L on road is a steal for this full sized luxury saloon.

Absolute value for money. If i was shopping for a luxo-barge, i would definitely go for it.

The phaeton, as someone suggested is like a CFS with a VW badge...at least the W12 version.

The article does not mention about the 3.6 being discounted. But, 25lacs discount :Shockked:. One could buy this and still have spare money for a Passat!
This surely seems to be the highest discount any car maker has given till date.

What would be interesting to see is, with this new discount, how many of the 50lac segment buyers, move towards the Phaeton.

What a discount !! The BEST yet I have seen. But how many people actually know about the Phaeton. I have seen only one yet and was surprised about the size of the car! It is BIG ! But for people who spend 50L+, doesn't the badge matter more than the 25L discount? I for one would not want to buy a car which looks like another car costing just 25% of this. I would rather buy a 5 series / A6 / Merc E class for 50L !

Edit
:: Whats the 95,000/- discount on Punto? Is it the cash equivalent of the "book the petrol, upgrade free to the Diesel variant" offer, considering the Diesel prices are usually 1L over petrol? And A-Star at 60K discount? HUGE !

As pointed out by fellow bhpians the garage sale on the Phaeton is simply to push off old inventory owing to the new launch. What is more intriguing is that the delivery of Phaeton takes one month. This clearly tell you that not a whole lot of stock lies the company. Are they then not diluting their brand by holding such garage sales? Couldn't they have not disposed of the stock in a more discrete manner? Any thoughts?

The Beetle was exceptionally successful. In fact, that only prompted BMW to rethink about the Mini.

They have to clear both stocks since both are replaced internationally.
