Mod Note : A Full Review of the Nissan Sunny has been uploaded at this link. Please continue the discussion on the review thread. This thread is closed.

Nissan unveiled its mid-size sedan, the Sunny, today in Mumbai. They plan to launch the car in the coming few months, possibly in the festive season of Diwali.

High Points:

- This is the 10th generation Nissan Sunny based on the V-Platform which is also shared by the Micra.

- The Sunny marks Nissans entry into the mid-size sedan market.

- It will be launched with a 1.5 litre petrol engine and a diesel power plant will follow soon.

- Shares many parts with the Nissan Micra, especially the interior.

- Although the interior was locked, leg room at the back appeared to be ample.

- Numerous uneven panel gaps were visible on the Sunny, just like the Micra.

- Nissan plans to broaden its dealer network by having 100 dealerships across the country by 2012.

- Fully loaded variant will have climate control, music system, steering mounted controls, electric mirrors, rear ac ducts, alloy wheels and more

- Top end variant gets alloys with 185 / 65 R15 tyres while lower variants will have 185 / 70 R14s on regular steel rims.

exterior design, paint quality looks top notch. The interiors are very dull and mediocre just like any other entry level sedan.

Re: Nissan Sunny unveiled for the the Indian mid-size market.

The steering looks too puny compared to the car. I never did like the Micra interiors, too bad they choose to continue the same in the new launch.

Any idea what price range they planning to launch. It does give a feeling of a proper 'Big Car' from the exterior.

Re: Nissan Sunny unveiled for the the Indian mid-size market.

Looks OK to me (but actually much better looking to me than the TOYOTA ETIOS, MSIL SWIFT DZIRE).

Looks like we are going to have a lot of competition now!

Any more details about the car Stratos?( I mean pricing, trims, other specs etc.)

P.S: Wasn't the car to be named something else cause 'Sunny' had been used for a scooter before (According to Autocar India).

Some more info about the Sunny (From Buy New Cars, Selling a Car, Auto Car Reviews, Car News, Zigwheels):

"Petrol version to be manufactured at the company's plant in Chennai" and here in India, the Sunny will compete against the likes of the Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Suzuki SX4, Hyundai Verna and soon to be launched Ford Fiesta.

Re: Nissan Sunny unveiled for the the Indian mid-size market.

I must say this car has a very queer look especially the side rear contours. It stands out for distinct lack of "closure" in terms of design flow. But like we always say, opinions on designs are very personal things and vary drastically.

The car also looks one size big compared the segment it is in, very much like Fluence. Looks like "big is better" stays the mantra for our market.

Would this have an AT in both the engines? Hope they launch the cars with same featurs in that of the Petrol and Diesel engines, unlike Renault.
The audio controls placement on the steering look weird .
IMO, the rear looks very similar to that of the Camry.

Can't say I'm a big fan of the looks. It looks "bulky". As for the rear, I think Dzire finally has some competition.

If Micra is any indication, then expect the diesel version to be treated like a step-child (in terms of features).

Re: Nissan Sunny unveiled for the the Indian mid-size market.

Bland styling, but looks big to me. Price may be one deciding factor. Definitely not in Honda City/Verna/Vento/Linea/Fiesta segment to me. More in line with Fiesta Classic/Swift Dzire/Verito/Etios territory. I do feel Nissan should have aimed for City/Vento segments with much better looks to create a premium image.

Re: Nissan Sunny unveiled for the the Indian mid-size market.

Interiors look really dated. I did not like the steering wheel.
On the exterior, the front profile is alright, but the rear profile shares the same butt ugly looks of Dzire.

Any idea on the price range for this car?

Re: Nissan Sunny unveiled for the the Indian mid-size market.

Nothing to rave about on the looks of the car. Definitely not a head turner. If it is priced 'right' could have some takers!

Cheers!

Re: Nissan Sunny unveiled for the the Indian mid-size market.

1.The tire looks puny at the rear with that huge boot.

2.The interior in the picture does not look up to the mark with the competition in the market.

3. With launching Petrol they are trying to establish it first but the recent prices of petrol going skywards will not help its cause and the July chart for sales is not aspiring either. (It should be another Linea in terms of sales chart)

4. Its main Competitors would be Dzire and Etios ? or a segment upwards which I doubt will be the case.

5. What would be the engine specification for Petrol and Diesel?

Yes - the looks are not really 'head-turning'. The price range will of course decide its fate. And no A/T option (unlike the City/Vento/SX4)?

Re: Nissan Sunny unveiled for the the Indian mid-size market.

Front looks really great. The rear looks Dzire' ish, though.
Interiors, need to improve. Cost cutting is very much evident.
Even, if the pricing is set right, Nissan has to do a lot of ground work for its Service centres across the major cities atleast. That too very fast.
Else, it can't with stand even one generation in India. Forget about 10.
Hope the Diesel mill would be powerful, efficient, torque(y)and frugal enough to face the comeptition in India (aka the National engine- MJD/QJT/DDIS).

Re: Nissan Sunny unveiled for the the Indian mid-size market.

The Sunny is an extremely popular mid sizer overseas especially in the middle east.

Extremely fuel efficient but tinny all the same ; typical DZireish

I believe that a Dzire is anyday a better buy
