Saw an ad in today's TOI, where it mentions insurance @ Re1 with a star & states that the offer is applicable on the Petrol versions only

Re: SCOOP Pic: Toyota Etios Diesel ; Coming in September'11

if the diesel mill is going to have 68ps of power and priced to compete with B+ segment, then IMO we might see the same ad for diesel variant also.

If at all the Diesel engine is same for Liva and etios, then its difficult to compete with Fiesta Classic, Manza with out any offers like Rs 1 for insurance etc.

Dont get to understand what the game strategy is with poor quality interiors, detuned engine. Just pay high price for the T badge.

Re: SCOOP Pic: Toyota Etios Diesel ; Coming in September'11

Great scoop BigVishnu & thanks for sharing the specs. The Etios D is specced almost similarly to its petrol avatar (donno if the petrol comes with a driver arm rest, but this one surely has as seen in the spec sheet above).

The biggest plus seems to be the low kerb weight of 1005 kgs for the V variant. I am posting the calculations done earlier with this correction, just to compare with the Fiesta TDCi

SCOOP Pic: Toyota Etios Diesel ; EDIT : Now launched-etiosd-vs-fiestad.jpg

So would this mean that the Etios D, having 8 ps more power (per tonne) & 30Nm more torque (per tonne) compared to the Fiesta D, would be a delight to driver, fingers crossed.

Corolla diesel was already underpowered but somehow managed with a VGT. But with a FGT under the hood, the engine will be lifeless i guess

Come on, just the Diesel engine spec and wieghts are not going to decide if it is a driver's delight.
In Diesel engine, the linearity of turbo plays a big role. Additionally the handling is another factor which plays in making Fiesta the drivers delight.
It had never had the power or the torque in its title.

BTW:
Here is What Siddarth had to say about the car post test driving in his twitter:
Quote:
Driven! Capable, fairly powerful, and handles better than petrol. SVP
So no doubt the cars are going to be good. So as usual expect people banging doors of Toyota for the cars and needless to say expect more than 4-5 months of waiting period.

Why is Indian auto industries plagued with all manufacturers having such waiting period.

Xingy, just what is on paper cannot maketh a car, how it performs on road would be the deciding factor. But based on the specs, we can definitely make some hypothesis & the current power/torque figures combined with the lower kerb weight of the Etios D as compared to the Fiesta D do make a case here. Anyways the official Test Drive of the Etios D would clear all the doubts. So looking forward to that.

Any idea on the pricing for Etios/Liva Diesel. Interesting to see a single variant in Liva.
Good to see all the variants having the necessary ABS and Airbags.
Also Toyota could have thought of a better variant name than "VD" for the Etios.

Re: SCOOP Pic: Toyota Etios Diesel ; Coming in September'11

Toyota seems to have achieved some incredible weight savings on the Etios.

Etios GD Kerb Weight: 990Kg
Liva GD Kerb Weight: 980Kg

Ergo, the Boot of the Etios weighs 10Kg

Below is the link to BSM report on the Etios & Liva Diesel:

REVEALED! Toyota Etios and Liva diesels

Quote:
Excerpts:

- The car were is surprisingly silent on the outside, but once in and when you step on the throttle there is a shrill clatter that can get annoying.

- The motor is quite tractable and is tuned for efficiency rather than outright performance.

- The car rides quite well but it tends to roll and wallow a fair bit.

- There is not much steering feel to boast of.

Re: SCOOP Pic: Toyota Etios Diesel ; Coming in September'11

Toyota had aimed at taking on the Swift and Swift Dzire with their Liva and Etios. I guess they have done a fairly good job with their Diesel Engines. Let us wait for the T-Bhp test drives before we can come to a conclusion.

IMO, the Corolla D would get a new, more powerful heart very soon

Working further on the same idea, here is the comparison of power and torque for Liva, Swift and Figo ( also taking into consideration the load on the vehicle ).

Under zero load condition, the Liva Power and Torque is very close to that of Swift DDiS.
Under full load condition, Liva characteristics moves closer to Figo and farther away from Swift. But, still Liva seems to be a much better performer than Figo by a long margin. Regardless, Swift DDiS engine still rocks. Had Maruti added more than 20 mm increased space in the new Swift, no one would have even thought of Liva. If I prefer Liva over Swift, there are only 2 reasons for that - Space and Glass Area. I'm still confused as to why Maruti allocated just 20mm out of the 90 mm increase in length of the new Swift for cabin space!

One more here. I would rather be Either there is a mistake, or is it made of tin foil?

Just traveled in and drove a petrol Etios today, makes me wonder it weighs even 750kg. After Fortuners, Prados and Land Cruisers, that we have to call this a Toyota is rather

Or they are doing the other extreme of the Prius: easily recyclable disposable cars! (there's little content to begin with). Metal you can melt, glass you can melt, it's the plastics that create pollution. So in the Etios, they give you as little plastic as possible. Whatever is there shall vaporize in the sun itself!
