Hyundai i20 : shortage for 6 speed?

A friend had booked an i20 Magna and was asked to wait. On asking around I was told now 5S comes more from factory than 6S; reason shortage coz Verna uses same!

Re: Hyundai i20 : shortage for 6 speed?

Does it mean that the 5S CRDI won't meet BS4 norms, since I remember Hyundai went for a 6 speed as part of complying to BS4 norms.

Only metros need BSIV,rest dont as of now and hence they are pulling 6S sales from other cities?

Is Pune is covered under BS4

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...ml#post2462785

Or is Hyundai exploiting some loophole i.e. having got a BS4 certification, modifications afterwards do not affect it ?

The New Fluidic Verna CRDi will come in 6 gear Manual. But i20 CRDi will now come only in a 5 gear Manual.

So all those who are on the brink of booking the car, RUSH..!!

Re: Hyundai i20 : shortage for 6 speed?

AFAIK,hyundai has silently reverted to 5 speed transmission, across the range, this shortage thing is just an excuse.

That is blatant cost-cutting!

Didn't expect this from Hyundai or is it due to the Verna?

Re: Hyundai i20 : shortage for 6 speed?

They are just trying to keep the costs down. While other cars almost 20k costlier i20 prices have been pretty much same since the launch.

Also the prices have been reduced by 10-15k ex showroom since they shifted to 5S gear box. SO yes they are passing the benefits too.

Re: Hyundai i20 : shortage for 6 speed?

So how would the performance get affected by this change? I know for sure that the highway fuel efficiency would drop. And if Hyundai has reduced the costs too, the I would say we cant really complain about it can we?!

Re: Hyundai i20 : shortage for 6 speed?

Rather than shortage ,i feel this is to give verna a more premium appearance than i20. Because if both sport the 6 speed gear box then people may not feel the exclusivity of owning a 6 speed verna. Purely a move to differentiate the products i believe. And AFAIK only 1.6 CRDI of verna comes in 6 speed gearbox.

Mine was the first lot of i20 that came with 6 speed gearbox. There was a sticker inside the bonnet which said mine was the 7th 6 speed i20 manufactured. The sticker was some thing like -"Transmission 6 speed, manufacture count-7".

The 6th gear is useful only when you reach 90+ kmph.Under that speed it does not come in to action. But it gives very good mileage if you cruise at 100 on 6th gear at 2K RPM.I got 24 kmpl with full AC once

Re: Hyundai i20 : shortage for 6 speed?

Differentiation should be performed by upgrading one with respect to another.
Here they are degrading one with respect to another to create the same effect!

I was surprised to hear this. I also have the same question as others.
How are they meeting BSIV with 5S? Also is this change only for CRDI or for petrol also?

No price drop because of the change from 6 to 5 speeds as confirmed by Chennai dealer!

Maybe dealer is taking you guys for a ride. New prices with price cut are mentioned on website itself.
Hyundai Motor Company :: Prices

My friend just took the delivery of a brand new i20 Sportz 2 days back and he booked the car 1-1.5 months back. He paid almost 10k less than the earlier price.
