Maruti Strike, affects a lot for the investors due to fall of the share prices. It affect the buyers in getting delivery in time. Sellers are also having a tough time convincing the booked customers. So it seems that it is not going to be solved soon.

Re: MSIL factory strike: Workers deliberately sabotaging the quality of cars.

Past 2 months have shaken the roots of the Indestructible Maruti Suzuki in India, way through these Intermittent strikes.
This inturn happening in the festive season, have made the New hatchback Car seekers(contributing about 70-80% of the total car sales) to switch for the other brands, hence uplifting their pros, previously which were overshadowed by the positive beliefs of Indian people for Maruti Suzuki.
Again this can really prove to be very lethal for the latter for their long term sustenance.

Saw on the box that they have still not vacated the plant premises - court order notwithstanding!

Production resumed, but partially. Let's see what today's talks between the workers and the management result in.

Oh boy! This is not good news for Gurgaon and Haryana :

Labour unrest may drive Maruti to Gujarat - The Times of India

Modi will only be too happy to have another manufacturer set up shop in Gujarat. If that happens, the town that owes its existence to Maruti is going to be really sorry!

This was bound to happen. And come to think of it as a lesson learnt by Maruti when they put all there eggs in the same place. Mahindra & TATA have made there manufacturing units at different locations. Something that Maruti should have done from the beginning.

^^Repressive and unfair labour practices will have their repercussions sooner or later, irrespective of the location. A new location will only buy them time. Case in point is the periodic troubles in Hyundai's Chennai plant.

I have a feeling this may be the beginning of the end for Suzuki in India - unless they take remedial measures fast. Suzuki is not like the other auto majors, since their main bread and butter for cars is India alone.

Interesting perspective.
Agree that India is Suzuki's largest (can we say ONLY ? ) market worldwide and they have to get the numbers/profits out of every car they make here. Due to this factor, they can posture to be rigid for sometime but have to relent to the strike soon.

Also, Suzuki is good in small cars. This was precisely the reason VW tried to buy them out and the ensuring mess that we are seeing. Their marketshare in India is steadily decreasing (even though they are producing ever-more cars in India than earlier). But the competition has now 'almost' reached their Alto. So they don't have the luxury of time in sorting out their issues.
Be it with the Workers (with HR policies)/ Market (cost factor) / Customer (dated technologies, lipsticks on old cars, etc.. / Competitors (pretty much all major manufacturers are here).

MSIL should have done this long ago.The auto hub of India in Haryana is losing its sheen. Tamil Nadu has already made it as a auto hub and now Gujarat will emerge as one of the most favoured states by industrialists, owing to the more conducive industrial climate there. Halol in Gujarat was selected by HM for their Isuzu engines who preferred to move out of Uttarpara (W.B.) due to similar reasons. Initially when GM launched the Opel Astra, HM had equity and they were together.Later GM took over the Halol plant. Then they parted ways.
Now the Nano has made Sanand its home. With MSIL's arrival and car roll out by 2015 from Gujarat, the place will be more sought after.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooters have also selected sites for expansion in Rajasthan and Karnataka, in preference to the Haryana industrial belt.

Re: MSIL factory strike: Workers deliberately sabotaging the quality of cars.

The timing of the announcement may be an arm-twisting tactic by the management - telling the workers that if you don't behave, then we are leaving. Although, I don't think Maruti will leave Haryana even if they set up their new plant in Gujarat.

I don't think situation will be significantly "better" for the auto industry in other states.

Climate for business houses is significantly better in Gujarat. Majority of auto giants are looking Gujarat as their next investment hub.
