The TeamBHP experts know best. Pardon my ignorance, I dont follow the small car segment closely. Now that you said it, I took a second, closer look at the snaps and there was this sticker on the rear left window which reads as HA S2, CL 03 or something. I am attaching the enhanced picture of the sticker for gurus to decipher!

Well, I was in my Innova and it was no issue leaving it behind. There was some traffic and this 'HA800' did deftly move itself between the lanes and so I have photos from both sides. Maybe the driver was trying to avoid having pics taken! My guess is I was moving in the 40-60km range when the pictures were taken (by my son sitting in the last row - camera: Kodak Z950 12Mp, 10X).

Re: HA 800 - From Hyundai *UPDATE* Fresh Scoop pics on pg.5

Specs of the 1 liter 3 cyl hyundai engine sold in uk are
68bhp@6200
95Nm@3500

Seems less peaky than the K10. Peak torque is made much earlier. Will probably be better for the city.

Hyundai | New Cars | I10 | Technical

Hyundai really shouldn't detune this engine...seems like it's evenly matched with the K10 but we'll see soon enough, I guess

Well a little bit of reading and I feel that we are erroneously calling the Hyundai small hatch project (and not the car itself) HA800. In fact, it is H800 and could possibly mean Hyundai / Hatchback with a 800cc heart.

I think HA is the internal code name of this 800cc small car project in Hyundai (just like the i10's code name was PA and Mahindra's new Global SUV is called W201). Since the media has popularized the code name and also since Hyundai is tight-lipped on the name of this car, we are right in referring this car as HA.

Regarding the car itself, I just don't think the car looks like a cheap car even with its camouflage on. Instead, it looks rich and from a segment above. If Hyundai prices this right, I am dead sure that they have a huge success in their hands that's surely going to cannibalize the Santro and lower variants of i10. Hyundai has set itself a big task by equipping all its recent launches with many segment-first features. It would be interesting to note if Hyundai does that in the mini car segment too. It's definitely not going to beat Alto but will surely take some sales out of Alto with its Fluidic Sculpture styling, hopefully feature-rich interiors and the peppy and proven Epsilon engine with one less cylinder.

Pics from Chennai

I saw two cars today on Sriperumbudur-Chennai highway with camouflaged front and back. At the first glance they looked like an i10 but is actually different. Have attached some pics.

re: Hyundai EON - *UPDATE* Fresh SCOOP pics on pg.5 & 6

It looks too similar to current i10, especially the from (head lights, OVRMs & Bonnet Grill) & the overall proportions also don't seem much different. Only the rear window is different to me.

RedHerring, did you listen to the sound from the engine... did it sound like the diesel? IMO diesel i10 is the next best things after ANSS/Ritz.

Yep, It looks like the i10. However, for a 800cc hatch, it looks quite big compared to the alto & interior space seems to be quite good atleast from the pictures. If this is so Alto beware.

re: Hyundai EON - *UPDATE* Fresh SCOOP pics on pg.5 & 6

Looks pretty well put together from whatever little can be seen of the car. Tight panel gaps and shut lines seem to suggest so. Almost Santro size is it not?

re: Hyundai EON - *UPDATE* Fresh SCOOP pics on pg.5 & 6

Not as tall as the Santro but the wheelbase definitely looks as big. Those upswept window sills must make the rear passengers quite claustrophobic.

But it looks a nice modern well built product, doesnt look like it can be cheaper than 3 lakhs.

No, the AC was on in my car, so couldn't listen to the sound. Also, didnt strike me to think about it at that time !

But yes, you are right, its very similar to the i10, i tried to get the VIN also so that someone could possibly decode it but we were moving too fast to get a decent snap.

This seems like a fairly well put together artists impression.
