Re: Skoda lines up hatchback Citigo for India

Doesn't it look like Renault Modus from the rear?

Are car manufacturers running out of designs?

True that; they should first set their house in order. That itself is one reason why they have "not cracked the bigvolume compact car segment in India".

PS : Good placement of the reverse sensors.

The UP & the Citigo are the exact answers to that. Both cars should sell good nos. in the market. Volkswagen AG's mantra is simple, customer cant afford a Audi, sell the VW, if not the Skoda & still not then the Seat. Honestly that's a damn good way of ensuring that the customer ends up buying one or the other model of their car.

They were aiming for the "World's #1 Car Manufacturer" position by piggy-backing on Suzuki. Now that the deal is almost busted, they need to introduce products in all price ranges left/right & center to ensure they have some car for every customer who walks into their dealerships. Even if it mean cannibalization within their own products (a la Maruti Suzuki).

Yep, the front looks like Estilo and the rear is more like Modus.

If VW group is serious about competition, they need to beef up their service atleast to match Maruti/Toyota/Honda standards in India.

Skoda might be launching the Citigo in Europe next month, and it will come to India only after the VW Up! is launched.

Citigo Update-

“The Citigo is a central component of our growth strategy. With this automobile, we are starting our model offensive in Europe. It opens up the important small car market for Škoda and perfectly applies our values in the shape of a city car. Citigo is compact yet spacious, economical yet agile, attractive and equipped with many innovative ideas. This car is ‘city clever’,” Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, Chairman of the Board of Skoda, said.

Re: Skoda Citigo: VW UP based small car may be headed to India

It's plain but I dont find it boring. If they come with a small diesel engine, I wouldn't mind buying it if its priced well.
I honestly feel there is enough scope for a nice little puny diesel car in the 3-4L price bracket.

Re: Skoda Citigo: VW UP based small car may be headed to India

"On the Car And Bike Show Facebook fan page, the program show’s host Siddharth Vinayak Patankar wrote today that the Skoda Citigo, many of us loved and hoped to buy (in green), isn’t making it to India.
Here’s the update in SVP’s words -
Skoda clarifies on Citigo. Ain’t coming anytime soon folks. Won’t even be shown at Auto Expo says Skoda India boss.CnB shares a healthy relationship with Skoda and this is as good as an official announcement. It is believed that SVP posted the message from a Skoda event where he met members of the Skoda India management."

Cheers!

I'm not surprised.

This car is primarily meant for developing markets. And VW had India on its mind when the Up! was conceived. I don't think they would want Skoda stepping in and gate-crashing their party, now would they? The Citigo and the Up! will not be sold together in India. The Up! will be given prime importance. Period.
