Re: Skoda Citigo: VW UP based small car may be headed to India

Autocar has done a review of the Citigo:

+ves:
  • Good handling, feels planted, light steering
  • Good ride quality
  • Big boot 251 litres, 960 litres with rear seats down
  • Great fuel efficiency :
The lower 59 bhp variant delivers 26.7 km/l and the 'Green tech' variant (sort of like Merc's blue motion variants) delivers a very impressive 30 km/l. Theres also a CNG variant planned which Skoda claims will return 97 mpg (i.e. 41.2 km/l). No diesels announced.

-ves:
  • Rear doors have pop out windows (similar to what third row passengers get in a Qualis)
  • The 59 bhp is sprightly around town but anaemic at higher revs, theres also a 74 bhp option.
  • Looks bland (my opinion)
Autocar estimates the price at £7.5k (3 door) and an additional £350 for the 5 door variant. If this is the case the Suzuki Swift is approximately 42% more expensive than the Citigo!!! That is a considerable price difference.

The price difference might not be so big in India though, Skodas are more of a budget brand in Europe and the Citigo base variants will have bare specs and things like rear pop up windows. Also being a premium brand in India, if and when Skoda launches this they can command chunkier margins.

Re: Skoda Citigo: VW UP based small car may be headed to India

Is it me or does this actually look slightly better than the VW up? I think this segment is probably the only other segment except premium sedan segment that is seeing so much action. I quite like the fact that we as consumers have so many options even if we plan to spend only 6lacs!

Thanks! From the review, it looks a capable little number. The reviews says it betters Kia Picanto in terms of usable space, which means it should be an able rival to the likes of Honda Brio.

CITIGO is deferred for India. Localization efforts and sizeable investments are prohibitive for an Indian build.

As the Citigo concept has been shelved, Skoda is exploring the option of Polo based sedan.
Here is an IAB rendering of the same.

Re: Skoda Citigo: VW UP based small car may be headed to India

All-New Skoda Citigo Coming in 2018 with EV Powertrain and Distinctive Styling.

The Mk2 version of the Citigo will arrive in 2018, Skoda views it as a key model, especially since it's the first contact many customers have with the brand, will meet customers expectation on updation in styling and more technology to be offered for the smallest price possible.

Quote:
The Citigo is almost tied for the class lead with the Hyundai i10 in terms of luggage space, so we could see a bit more "Simply Clever" added for good measure.
Quote:
But the most interesting fact about the Citigo 2 is that there will be an electric version. This will use a 60 PS motor and should have a total driving range between 150 and 200 kilometers (92 and 124 miles).
