re: Spied: Tata Indica E-V2 XL- Update: video & more pics on P7

If its just a longer hatch i.e. larger boot space then theres no need for the extended wheelbase. Instead I think it additional passenger room to accommodate a 3rd row. Theres a whole new compact MUV segment spawning in India with the mini Xylo, Ritz and now Tata.

I guess the previous generation Indica platform will enable them to price it cheap. 4x4 will be highly unlikely, how will they fit such a transmission into that?!!

sidindica 1. Its a CR4 badge. Its a stretched Indica.
2. Its a proper 5 seater hatchback ONLY.

sidindica : 4. Think of it as a hatchback version of Indigo XL.

@Bluengel180, Marina was a Station Wagon. This is supposed to be a stretched hatch.

This will look like a shorter version of the Indigo Marina, if it is just a stretched hatch, IMHO.

The marina was effectively the Indica hatch stretched out, but most of the room there was used for the huge boot.

I really don't see the point of stretching out the hatch just to improve the leg room

I dont know if you have used/owned Marina. But, Marina was nothing like a stretched Indica. It was a proper station wagon version of Indigo sedan.

Very nicely laid out car with all the necessary utilities to be part of a family of size 3 to 5.
Many of the Marina owners were longing for one such variant of MANZA from TATA. We dont know for sure if its really in plan or not.
Value of Marina can only be felt by its owners I regret for selling mine since its not in production any more except the taxi variant.

Prem.

What is the point of it? Making version(s) because they have nothing else to do? Well they can sort their QC for one.

TATA creating new segments to fight back at new launches by M&M, Toyota and Maruti. No new vehicles from TATA except the Merlin which itself is in the womb for quite some time.

TATAs are good at creating new segments with their products - Sierra, Estate, Marina, Sumo, Nano, Ace. Unfortunately, they are unable to capitalize on their first mover advantage and get the numbers. Barring Ace, don't think any of their lauches is topping the sales chart compared to the competition.

Prem.
You got me there, I've never owned one nor driven one. My only experience with one would be for airport drops

However, seeing that this is a stretched platform Indica with a hatch like rear, I think it is fairly similar to the Marina without the extended boot. I believe the original Indigo is also a stretched platform Indica.

If this retains the trailing link rear suspension set up of the Indica, then this would be different. It also appears marginally shorter than the Marina, so I'm not sure of the value over/above the Marina, apart from the CR4 engine.

I wish Tata would raise the suspension a bit and give it 15"ers (like the Fusion)

re: Spied: Tata Indica E-V2 XL- Update: video & more pics on P7

IMHO, This car looks more like a Sub 4-metre version of Indigo Marina, as extending the already spacious to her limits doesn't make much sense.
Probably they're going to increase its boot section(alongwith minor rear legroom increase also) to liberate better space for heavy usage personals.
Renault Kangoo seems to be the Idol for TATA for re-furbishing this age-old Indica e-V2.

Is there really much of a difference between a Station Wagon and a Stretched Hatch? They seem to have identical utility to me.

Also, the car seems ridiculously U-G-L-Y.
