@Kadana, difference may be something like the similarity between a Wagon-R and a Yeti ? Do check out the definitions of a hatch & a Station Wagon/Estate car.

@KaviPrem has rightly pointed out the utility and advantages of the Marina. Even I dont remember how many times we have loaded our old Marina with luggage - everywhere, including some in the co-driver seat.

Could it be Tata's take on the Fiat Multipla?

re: Spied: Tata Indica E-V2 XL- Update: video & more pics on P7

Its seems to be shorter than the Marina, hence it must be a CS sized Marina.

Tried a bit on Paint, to run the body lines, and think this is how it will look. It cant be a Saloon, as the roof line is long.

Dont mind the amateur paint job

@Rajchetan: Your image rendering makes me wonder if India finally has an answer to the London cab! If Tata gives it sliding rear doors than it would be quite a space saver (from a cabbie's perspective) on some of our narrow roads!

I'm wondering as to Tata will ever stop its numerous variants on the Old indica platform! What are they trying here actually? The XL version, the Marina have flopped terribly and why would they keep working on the old platform when it is not going to bring them volumes? As long as they keep working on this old indica, the perception about Tata is not going to change and that is going to affect their more modern cars such as the vista / Manza.

re: Spied: Tata Indica E-V2 XL- Update: video & more pics on P7

I hope they do something about the ride and handling, the first pic looks really awkward, looking at the way the rear wheel seems to touch the wheel well.

Someone probably cooked up a recipe for an Indica with the same wheelbase as an Indigo/CS and rear doors from the XL.

I do hope they make some changes to the C pillar to increase the amount of boot space.

The amount of reuse they do in Tata Motors, its probably a family trait. No wonder TCS does well, innit ?

re: Spied: Tata Indica E-V2 XL- Update: video & more pics on P7

The good thing about the experiments with the old Indica platform is that even if they fail it will not affect their present gen models Vista/ Manza's appeal. Slowly but surely they are gaining ground with their refreshed Vista/ Manza and if they slip up now it will not be good for these brands.

So any number of renderings using the old platform is welcome and at most cater to the cab market even if it does not take off in the individual segment. Look at the number of Marinas running as Meru's as an example. Also from a suggestion earlier of a dedicated city cab is a great idea!

Am I the only one seeing the rear quarter glass? see the picture:
Spied: Tata Indica E-V2 XL- Update: video & more pics on P7-tataindicaxl1.jpg

Also the roof line ends like a sedan. Do anyone else think so?

So what is this car? The C piller could be large. A limo for the masses?!

Citreon took the C3, stretched it and made it the C3 Picasso. This is what Tata is doing. Creating something like a Marina, but keeping size smaller so that its more like the Indigo CS's marina version.

Another model comes to mind is Ford Transit Connect. This is built on an Old Ford Focus platform(Focus moved to a new platform), but many derivatives. It got a Taxi version, Small Panel Van and an electric too.
Who thought a sedan based panel van will become so successful?

I think that's where the rear door ends, and the quarter glass looks like it starts where you have indicated.

There does seem to be an unusual bump at the rear, which could mean that this is an Indigo CS XL with a contraption put up at the rear to mask the shape.

Don't understand it anyway. I really believe they should increase the wheel size, making it slightly taller like the Fusion. That will find more niche buyers, and greater differentiation from the Indica/go range.

Look at the size of front windows! They look huge and the door's height looks somewhat shorter than normal Indica's.
With a wheelbase that massive, looks like it will have GC problems.

By any chance, it is a diesel competition to Maruti Omni?

It will look something like this rendering courtesy indian autos blog. Almost looks accurate.

If this is accurate, the question is "why TM would do this?"?

re: Spied: Tata Indica E-V2 XL- Update: video & more pics on P7

if above rendering is correct, it appears to be more of a stretched out indica. i guess Plan is to keep the legacy looks for taxi segment and for personnel use, switch to manza looks. this differentiate 's the products pretty well.
