According to Overdrive, GM is planning to get a common rail plant for optra later this year. This will fill the gap between the 8 and 12 lakh diesel sedan where the current offering is only elantra and Rider.
This may be a 2.5L engine with power in excess of 130BHP.
But I guess the only worry is with GM in dire straits, is it a safe bet to go for this company esp in diesel since delphi USA cannot supply common rails to GM due to union and financial troubles
The comfort and luxury of an Optra with a powerful, yet frugal diesel - sounds very enticing :)
I dont believe any of the rubbish that Overdrive dishes out. The Optra diesel is being launched in Europe. That is no indication of it coming here.
GTO
According to them this diesel will do service in India too(its called GMDAT i think).
But more than that I am wondering who will make the engines with GM USA in a tizzy and delphi on the verge of a shutdown.
Another round of mergers, anyone?
They should bring out a forester with a more powerful petrol engine or this diesel engine..
Oh no. Not an Optra diesel!!

How do you know that Delphi USA is the supplier for the common rail?
