I think, the TATA VENTURE also should get this engine. With a capacity of eight persons and luggage, the indica Turbo diesel ??? With such a huge area for the AC to cool !!! The engine is one of the main factors which prevented me from considering Tata Venture.

Same 2956 CC engine but in a different state of tune to enhance economy. Develops 84 HP instead of Safari Dicor's 115. Claimed average is 14.7 KMPL. It is BS-IV complaint which Safari 3.0 wasn't.

Re: Tata Sumo Gold - Refreshed Sumo!

This just in on Rediff,

Tata Sumo Gold is available in two engine tunes with four variants namely Tata Sumo Gold CX, Tata Sumo Gold LX, Tata Sumo Gold EX, Tata Sumo Gold GX.

The first engine is the CR4 Turbo motor, which is basically a 2956cc engine that produces 85 PS of power accompanied with 250 Nm of torque.

This supports BS1V emission norms. On the other hand, the other engine option is the Di Turbo engine, which is 2956cc 4 SP TCIC engine that produces 70 PS of power along with 225 Nm of torque and abides by the emission norms of BS3.

They have finally updated the site. Pricing and pdf brochure are also there. But no colour palette. The graphics (stickers/ decals) seems to be overdone. Prices on par with Bolero, top end BS4 GX comes at Rs 4,000 more than Bolero ZLX.

+1. The first minute of video was useless. And 4X4 would be good to have in Sumo.

Sumo looked best when it was with the rear mounted tyres, Rugged. hmmm Safari also loosing it :-(

Plastics were far better than Armada, err.. Bolero.

Sumo Gold Website (LINK)

This is just a direct replacement for the plane jane Taxi Sumo. I think they have removed the plain jane sumo and all Sumos going forward are Sumo Golds only. I already saw a Gold in my Office drop Cab fleet.

The features dont appeal to a private buyer (taking me as an example) in anyway though. Confirmed No 4X4 even on order as it seems that there was negligible sales of 4X4 model in the Civilian segment.

Newly launched Tata Sumo Gold BSIV and BSIII

Both versions of Sumo Gold share the same engine , gear box and body dimensions with the following exceptions.
BSIII version has power output of 70 PS and torque of 235NM and the final drive ratio is 3.73 .
Where as for BSIV CR4 version the power is 85 PS with torque of 250 NM and the final drive ratio lowered to 3.36 .
The tyre size 185/85R16 is for BSIII version but for the CR4 BSIV version it is 215/75 R 15 LT. So the tyre is downsized from 16 inches to 15 inches for more powerful CR4 engine. Is this tyre downsizing (with increased width)is to support high speed of CR4 version ?
As I will be taking test ride of Sumo Gold BSIV CR4 version next week I wish to understand the change in tyre size. I do not think that both the tyres have the same overall diameter.

As I am looking for a SUV with big size diesel engine ( like 3000CC) and as I can not afford cars like Fortuner and Ford Explorer I am very optimistic about Sumo Gold. Will deeply appreciate addressing my point.
Regards,
Koushik

@Koushik, these two tyre sizes were used even on the Sumo & Sumo Victa. The cheaper Sumo's were used primarily by the taxi segment, and they had the cheaper, narrower 185 section tyres. The higher trim Victa models - and the Sumo 4x4's came with 215's.

It is nothing to do with the higher speed of the CR4 versions. You cannot really call this down-sizing - this difference has been used for years now.

( The 215's have a 2.41% smaller OD than the 185's. )
