Re: Tata Sumo Gold - Refreshed Sumo!

Sumo looked better and more rugged when the spare wheel used to be on the tail gate. The small Tata logo and lettering on the tail gate (lifted straight from Indica) doesn't look good at all. IMO, the tail gate would look better if the letters TATA are embossed/engraved in large size, like in the Xenon.

Or as in the Vista sedan class maybe

They could even get across a crome garnish on the rear like in the Aria or the new Safari merlin with TATA emborsed and have SUMO on thick lettering like in the ARIA. But the the lettering and chrome costs may not go with vehicle category maybe.

Re: Tata Sumo Gold - Refreshed Sumo!

Have a look at the rear door of 1999 LR Discovery 1 and compare with Sumo rear door some similarities IMHO

Re: Tata Sumo Gold - Refreshed Sumo!

@Harimakesh, the LR's rear windshield is more tapered towards the top, than the Sumo's. Also, Why do you think TML will make a change in only that one section ?

Guys, pls remember that this version of the Sumo is seeing a change in the engine & a little in the interiors. Not much else has changed. We just need to wait for the final specs, which we will know soon.

Just felt a inspiring similarity. So the engine change just to incorporate BS4 or some tweaking to boost torque/bhp aswell?

Any details on interior changes?

Interesting to see Tata the Monolith gaining "refresh"ed momentum

I don't think this is the first time the Sumo has had the DICOR engine.

If I go by your logic, LR copied Tata. The Sumo was launched in 1994 with the same rear windscreen.

Jesus Christ man. It's such an old vehicle and I have no idea what changes the "gold" label can bring.

To be honest, this looks more like the Mahindra Armada to me, except the bonnet/nose.

This looks more like the Trax. I think there was a thread in team-bhp about a SWB Trax which was also called the Indian G wagon.

Re: Tata Sumo Gold - Refreshed Sumo!

I just inquired about sumo at a tata dealer. Here is the leaflet one of the executives emailed to me.

Re: Tata Sumo Gold - Refreshed Sumo!

@Kaks15: Thanks for sharing the Refresh Sumo brochure.
Any information on the 4x4 offerings on the Sumo GX variant?
Have you received price infomation for the refreshed Sumo?

3YEARS 100k KMS WARRANTY FOR PERSONAL BUYER IS GOOD.
Sad Tata has not considered to include ABS even on refreshed GX variant.
Instead of last row jump seats, Middle row captain seats option could possibly give a choice as a comfortable private 7 seater for family buyers

Tata can standardize ABS, Manza steering wheel, electric ORVM and Audio on Sumo range aswell as it will appeal to personal buyers and Tatas can gain volume economy advatage it will be win win for manufacturer and buyer.

These features standardization along with agressive price Tata can win back Sumo volumes it lost to Bolero. But seems compalascent Tata is happy in missing their bus on Sumo refresh against Bolero

Re: Tata Sumo Gold - Refreshed Sumo!

@Kaks15, thanks for the leaflet

Changes in GX variant:
Power increase - 80bhp instead of 70 bhp (CR4 vs 3.0 Di Turbo)
Power decrease - 80 bhp instead of 90 bhp (CR4 vs 2.0 IDI TCIC)

Torque increases from 223 to 250 Nm ( compared to the 3.0 DI Turbo)
Torque increase from 190 to 250 Nm (compared to the 2.0 IDI TCIC)

So the biggest gains we see are with the TORQUE, FE and increased base warranty. This is going to be a beauty to drive !

GC: 190 mm is the same as the Sumo Spacio (3.0L DI Turbo), but is more than the what the Victa had.

Wheel base: increased from 2400 mm to 2425 mm (little surprised here). Not that it is going to make much difference in vehicle dynamics

HU / player added.

Castle grey is a new color, not seen before in the Sumo. The other nice color was a light green one, which is not seen now.

Everything else was already there in the GX variant.

The leaflet does not mention the dual blower (roof mount), so I am assuming that the GX variant has it still.

Like Harimakesh said, I would have loved to see ABS on the GX variant atleast.

The noise levels of the TCIC DI unit is a concern, but for an workhorse no other engine other than that!

Interesting to note that torque levels are the same as bolero(new) M2DICR unit.
