Hi guys. Does anybody have an idea when the Suzuki Swift Diesel version is scheduled to be launched i nthe Indian market? please:

It will be here by the end of 2006. Thats what maruti officials have been telling automags

And with the famed 1.3L multijet Fiat engine, you now get it with the small car benefits of the new budget, length being 3695mm. Wonder whether diesels will be tantalisingly priced close to the petrol versions considering that (1.3L) they don't get excise benefits :)

This month's Top Gear magazine has a review of Swift Dsl. I did not read it fully, but the tester appeared to be not very enthusiastic about it. I will go thro' the review and will let you know what exactly they think about it.

thanks a lot guys...and deepakhon iam waiting for your comments.

There are plenty of reviews online - see the one on Yahoo Autos

Power and torque figures dont seem impressive at 64bhp and 17.17 nm, though the revband is not mentioned. The Indica Turbo makes more power, but less torque. With the Diesel engine, their weights would be identical (1050 for Indica Turbo D v/s 980 for Swift petrol).

EDIT - Peak torque is at 2000 rpm compared to the Indica's 2500.

Looking at those figures, a Dicor'ed Indica should be able to match and surpass them. I am using this comparison because the Swift D is aimed squarely at the Indica market...meaning Tata will have to pull up their socks in all the other departments soon.

Is it the 1.3 Multi-jet 16 valves unit? Why only 68bhp? The same engine in the Grande Punto delivers 75 and 90BHP!

I think there are both 8V and 16V versions of the same engine.

A small 1.3 L (1248 cc) version (called the SDE) is produced in Bielsko-Biala, Poland. This Multijet variant has been chosen as the "Engine of the Year - 2005".

There are two versions of this engine: a 70 PS (69 hp/51 kW) (used in the Fiat Punto and Panda) and a variable inlet geometry 90 PS (89 hp/66 kW) (used in the new Fiat Grande Punto, in the Opel Corsa and the 2006 model of the new Suzuki Swift). At the time of the launch this was the smallest 4 cylinder Diesel engine available and is capable of remarkable fuel economy: 72 mpg (3.3 L/100 km) in some applications. The engine is able to meet Euro-4 pollution standards without the use of an additional particulate filter.

A 1.6 L version of the engine, with a maximum power output of 120 PS (118 hp/88 kW) will be introduced in fall 2005.

I dont think Swift is going to beat Indica sales. Indica has more space, more legroom, produces more power. Swift scores in better build quality. But both the cars rattle.lol:

The Turbo Indica will beat the Swift Diesel Hands down any day.

I dont think Swift is going to eat in to Indica's sale, as Indica is mostly sold as Taxi. With cheap spares, low cost of running, it makes a good car as a taxi. If you ask taxi owners, till date they will vouch for Qualis as opposed to Innova, as they dont give a f about interiors, better quality, quiter engine, all they care about is how many people they can seat, and whats the cost of ownership and running. I think Swift Diesel is going to be the car for most private Indica owners, but the taxi market purely and primarily belongs to Tata.

Thats a road test on the Swift by TG.

I dont think so the Swift is miles ahead in terms of engineering and is loaded with too much then what Tata Can think of.
