Why only Petrols?

Why cant good diesel engines be preferred by many?

Another way to look at it is that the engine defines the FE too. Tjet will not exactly be the most fuel efficient of the lot and hence a lot of people will rule out the car because of the engine.

Absolutely true! This is because it is very hard to single out ONE factor which can make or break the decision. Engine is no doubt an important factor but it has to be coupled with other things too. For me - the first thing is the looks of the car. Second is the engine and third is the interiors. But ranking factors is very tough because all these factors play together in the decision making process.

Re: What is your *ONE* deal maker?

My*one* deal maker is seating and driving comfort. That is the main reason I have selected my Ritz. Second and third are VFM and FE. In this segment I got Bolero,Wagon R and Ritz. The failure was my TATA Indica.

My deal maker is ride quality. Find me the car with the best ride across all types of roads and I am game. Going by recent tbhp reviews I suppose it should be the XUV but that should wait for my test ride .. Cheers

Even if the poll is for *ONE* deal breaker, the result would be the same (or closer). If one voted for (good) "Engine" as the one deal maker, he is more likely vote for (bad) "Engine" as the deal breaker.

But I agree to everyone, in real life we take a weighted decision based so many factors.

Re: What is your *ONE* deal maker?

For me reliability of the vehicle is the most important criteria, so no tension during highway travel.

Re: What is your *ONE* deal maker?

For me its build quality ( actually a combination of looks with build quality).
I can never see myself buying a flimsy car with a great engine, but I can live with an average engine on a stunning body.

My vote goes for safety, though I wish I could combine it with reliability.

I also wish there were crash test standards and ratings in India, so that we could a better picture of safety rather than just rely on the presence (or lack of) abs and airbags.

Re: What is your *ONE* deal maker?

Obviously it is the engine.

However, with options galore, especially in the hatchback segment and quite some of them boasting of good engines, when I started looking for another hatchback (diesel) ABS and Airbags were must.

Also in the reckoning was ACC. Got tired of switching off AC, switching off the blower and changing the direction of the airflow for at least 5 months in the year (from October (except some days in Dec and Jan) to March) when AC made the cabin cold and when you switched it off the temperature soared. The only car that met my requirement was Figo but then the new Swift D arrived and well... let me not go OT.

Re: What is your *ONE* deal maker?

For me its the engine, my magnum is decade old, looks are not very contemporary, Ride is good but handling is average and overall + and - in other departments. But those 120 horses with 320nm torque, overall refinement and reliability of the engine is amazing, have driven 60k so far and it still feels like new.

Re: What is your *ONE* deal maker?

For me, the ONE deal breaker would be Reliability. 90% of the times, I travel with family and 60% of the time, I am on the highway. Hence, I wouldnt want my car breaking down in the middle of nowhere or refusing to crank up when needed.

Re: What is your *ONE* deal maker?

In my most recent purchase (for my wife), the need was for a small Automatic for bumper to bumper city driving. Everything else was secondary.

Re: What is your *ONE* deal maker?

For me it is the engine. Which is why I went for the ANHC (nothing else in that segment came close) and also the K10.

All else being (more or less) equal, for me, it is the ability to see the two corners from driver's seat. I can not drive "andaze se".
