Hi guys...
Are crde engines completely advantageous.
Is their running cost high.forget the mileage .do they get spoilt easily ,i mean on usage of adulterated diesel.Spares should also be costly,

CRDe engines are very much 'new-gen'. They definitely have their advantages. Make less noise, are zippier... and most of all still use the cheaper fuel. However alongwith all those hi-tech wizardry lies the rub. They are also sensitive to kind of fuel you put in. Adulterated diesel, most particularly the highway variety, can be the nemesis for the car's heart. Starting from the injectors bad fuel may cause problems to the pump, the turbo etc. And this is where the simple IDI NA engines like the ones used in Indica actually have an advantages. It may cough and smoke with bad diesel but may still come out of it all without any major damage (that is if it happens by accident). A new-gen diesel with CRDi engine may cause you to have a major hole in such circumstances. Ask Karthik about the problems he faced with his skoda.

is that a common rail or PD engine...

Neither, the Skoda is a normal direct injection unit, from what I know. The problem was with the car, and their crappy service.

thats what i wanted to know.. it was a normal IDI oil burner.

coming back to the topic, crde as a technology hasnt faced any major problem in the indian market. mercs & accents have been using this for quite sometime, without any known problems.

scorpio and dicor is doing well, only problem we have heard of now is that of innova d4d, reported by a few owners in the forum. thi was to do with excessive soot and drop in performance.. hope this has been ironed out by toyota.

so, common rail technology per se has been successful in the indian market.

Its a normal DI not IDI, sorta like the Scorpio base model.

If you are talking about the abbreviations, none of the ones you noted are used by Mercedes. They use CDI.

ok. But CDI tech is same as crdi/crde/crd tech right?

I guessed so because I know Hyundai diesels are helped by Merc technology and hence...
