With a Range Rover that is fully loaded, looks that good at a price like that, no wonder 80 % of the cars have already been booked. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a waiting list for the Evoque just like in the U.K and other markets overseas in the months to come.

Any info on whether a majority of the models booked were the basic ones or the Higher-end models? The 3 Door "coupe" version looks like a niche to me.

re: Range Rover Evoque launched in India!

That's a beautiful looking car! Looks like they went ahead with the top engine options. In UK, the diesel has 3 different state of tunes. The mini like paint is a bit over the top I guess. But the car looks mean & sexy !

Edit:: Would have loved to see the DRLs in action. Again where does the second sun-roof [over the middle roe] slide to? It looks like the sun-roof extends till the rear spoiler, so what happens when opening the roof?

I liked the way it looks, aggressive, funky and decent at the same time. Looks smaller than I imagined.

re: Range Rover Evoque launched in India!

Thats what you call designing a car. Vehicles like those just make you want to go make that mistake of throwing away all your life's savings on the car. It looks like nothing else. I am pretty sure they will find it tough to meet the demand for some time to come.

Thanks for the amazing pictures. Are we going to have a TD report too?

re: Range Rover Evoque launched in India!

Awesome snaps, a great looking car.

The pricing though is a bit brave and optimistic. The vehicle sure is a looker, but 72lac for a car that is no bigger than a CR-V?

Anyway, Good luck LR!

re: Range Rover Evoque launched in India!

Look at the specs and then look at the price. Something doesn't quite gel there.

A 2 liter 4-pot diesel and 2.2 liter 4-pot petrol mill powering a feature laden car that is priced between 50-70 lakhs (on-road) is not the best move, I'd say. It's just a little too expensive. But what helps matters for LR is that they've positioned this with a premium tag. A tag that helps it distinguish itself from the garden-variety Land Rover Freelander.

But is a 10-15 lakh + over the Freelander worth it? I'm not sure.

Is LR looking to target the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5, with the Evoque, in India, or are they looking to form a niche for themselves, considering that they've been brave enough to introduce the petrol variant, and that too, in coupe form?

Great thread GTO.

re: Range Rover Evoque launched in India!

This is not fair, it really isn't. Such a delicious car deserves to have a more aggressive and inviting 'come-buy-me' price tag. Thought TATA's were more innovative about such things, how did they land up with such touch me not pricing. Any idea what kind of service and support is JLR offering? Last time I visited Concorde motors, saw a Black jag getting serviced there. There was a 2 foot cordoned off perimeter around the car.

re: Range Rover Evoque launched in India!

I do not believe it to be excessively priced. Premium priced, maybe. When you consider the Freelander HSE (top spec) which goes at around 40L ex- showroom (no octroi), the base Evoque Pure is around 4L (10%) more, and the BMW X3 2.0d sells at around 42L. The base Evoque is almost as generously equipped as the HSE Freelander. Moreover, the Evoque is somewhat like the Mini, and Range Rover is hardly a value brand.

re: Range Rover Evoque launched in India!

The vehicle looks exceptional. It looks spacious as well. I am not sure if the panoramic sun roof is good idea in a country like India. Also, are we getting the 2WD or the 4WD version?

I feel it's a bit expensive, 10-15L. This is probably because it comes in as CBU. Tata's should build it here. They have to be careful or else they will price themselves out. They have already done it with Aria.

re: Range Rover Evoque launched in India!

Very good package but insanely highly priced and surely a rich man's toy. At that price one can buy better range rover products only such as the discovery 4. Moreover one can even buy the q5 and q7 at that price. For the kind of size and features anything more than 30 lacs is premium pricing.

A Honda CRV sells at 25L ex showroom in Mumbai, a BMW X3 is Rs 42L or so, and a Land Rover Discovery comes at 63L ex showroom Mumbai. The Q7 is however outstanding value for a CBU, I agree.

The point I am sore about is the long waiting period- 4 months minimum? But by then, there might be an upward revision in prices. But we may get lucky, UK buyers are now increasingly fed up with the long waiting period, and there might be cancellations, so LR hopefully allocate more vehicles to our market!

re: Range Rover Evoque launched in India!

The Evoque definitely looks out of this world. As per I know, it offers a lot more features than the Q5, but still the pricing somehow doesn't seem right. It is definitely 10-15 lakhs overpriced IMO. But, all things aside, it has the looks to die for. Definitely the best looking Land Rover ever made. I had the chance to see it in person a couple months back when I visited Spain.
