Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

How relevant is this new Camry in India?

All Camrys in India, as we know, are CBUs. Which automatically make it more expensive than it actually should be. Hoteliers can rejoice! But the common man looking for a D-Segment car? Not quite.

As far as I'm concerned, if this Camry is not going to be assembled here in India, I don't see how it has any relevance.

Toyota. For God's sake. Would it kill you to assemble it here? There is, most certainly, a large market for D-Segment cars. So what in the World is stopping you?

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

^^ AFAIK the new Camry comes only with 6 speed AT for US, MT is not even an option as claimed in the article above. Also, there is no clear mention of whether it will be assembled here.

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

With the new duty structure, Toyota would have to assemble the engine/ transmission here if they need to get any real price benefit out of it. And since the current Camry is priced not too far from the locally assembled Accord, let us wait to see if there is any surprises Toyota has in store. The hotel people might find little attraction in the Camry now, as the petrol- Diesel price gap is so high, and many hotel cars clock high mileages. The obligations with the concessional duty also means they cannot sell off their cars frequently. The Camry though remains a good choice for people who want a large, comfortable, quality saloon without the flash of a German badge.

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

Wow! That's the new Camry and yet another exclusive Team BHP scoop! Great going, this is what I love about this forum. Whatever model it is, it just can't escape from the prying eyes of BHPians.

By the way, that's really quick action from Toyota, coming merely months after launching the new Camry abroad. I sincerely wish they bring this model as CKD atleast this time and let it prove itself amongst its competitors. Toyota's brand image would ensure that the Camry (if assembled here in CKD form) is the top-selling car in its segment just like its siblings Fortuner, Corolla Altis and Innova.

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

Great catch. Thanks rangakishen. I am not sure which one, but Overdrive or Autocar has a list of 2012 launches in which it was stated that the 2012 Camry would be CKD. Hope they price it around 20 lakhs.

Have a Corolla and am planning to upgrade. The current Camry was insanely expensive at 28 lakhs. Now waiting for the '12 Camry launch eagerly!

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

It's sad to see how much one pays for Toyotas in India. Considering the INR and PHP are almost equivalent, please check the prices of Camry in the Philippines. We pay more OTR for a Corolla in India.

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

Its basically going to be priced close to the Passat Highline and if it has the features to match, it may just find a few buyers. By a few i mean a FEW. The Passat hasnt really set the charts on fire with its pricing too close to the C Class, 3 Series and A4.

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

This new Camry looks pretty similar to the Altis Facelift.
Hoping it to be well-priced and well featured to meet its rivals!
Toyota generally lacks features, when it comes to any of their cars, be it Innova or Fortuner, the rivals always have a lead in features.
No doubt, the built of a Toyota is truly respectful. Hoping it to launch soon!

Re: Scoop!! A new D segment car spotted testing. New Toyota Camry??

As per Indian Autos Blog, Toyota has decided AGAINST assembling the New Camry in India, leaving all speculations by ACI etc about local assembly to rest.

2012 Toyota Camry spied; Launch by August 2012 [exclusive]

Next generation Toyota Camry arrives here in 2012

A statement released by a Toyota official clarifies that 2011 and 2012 will be dedicated to establish the Etios Brand. They are not interested in aggressively promoting the Camry, so we can be sure that it will not shake up the segment and the Superb will continue to rule. Bad move by Toyota.

@suhaas307: You were right, i'm sorry for routing you to the wrong article

Toyota provides features based on competition in each segment. Innova and Fortuner lacks features as until now there were no real competitors that can challenge their numro UNO position in respective segments. At the same time, Corolla Altis is decently loaded with feature due to stuff competition.

*Scoop* New Toyota Camry (Indian spec) caught testing in Bangalore

New Toyota Camry has been cought testing in Bangalore as reported by TopGear.

I being a Camry owner (2007 model - now sold) am mighty unimpressed by this design - they put together an Accord, 320D and a Asia-Oceania previous gen Camry - prefer the US version to this one!

Source - Spotted New Toyota Camry - Car news - BBC TopGear Magazine India Official Website

If it comes only in Petrol that too priced anything above 23-24L ORT it will be a disaster. If it comes in Diesel options at around 25 ORT - it will be a better choice versus Accord and Sonata.

re: *Scoop* New Toyota Camry (Indian spec) caught testing in Bangalore

I saw the same car at the Auto Expo and I can say that it looks much better in the flesh than in these photos. Its interiors are a little under stated as with all Toyota's but overall it will have the same bullet proof reliability. I doubt if diesel will be launched and it will surely be around 23-24L in Petrol. It should launch by July as per their previous commitment. This D+ segment space is already over crowded and it should face stiff competition from Skoda Superb, VW Passat, Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata. As they are now assembling the car in India and if they price it right (maybe below 20L), they might have a winner on their hands.

re: *Scoop* New Toyota Camry (Indian spec) caught testing in Bangalore

Somehow though this Camry look is quite neat it does also endup looking a mix of the current accord and the new Sonata.

The Current Camry itself looks quite nice to my eyes why it failed in India is the price and the way they have brought it into India. That is the bit they need to correct else this one will go the same why. Toyota has much higher goodwill / brand value across the globe and in India than Honda and the reason the Camry has not done well agaist the Accord is only the pricing out here.
