Re: BMW India launches pre-owned car division. Full details uploaded!

*Update*

FULL details on BMW's used car program has been added to the opening post of this thread.

I'm seeing a good range of cars, from the 3 - 7 on BMW's website. There is even an M3 & an M5. Some prices, though, seem too high. Inevitably, the market will decide on the real-world pricing. As a lover of pre-worshipped cars, I welcome this move.

Unpardonable error : There is no city-based search on BMW's website!!

Also, a good way for BMW to control the prices at which its used cars exchange hands.

Referring to the first pic in the first post here, the 320D shown at 32,xxx/- per month rate. For this rate, you have to make a down payment of 9.2 lacs. I am really not sure if this will create any sort of buzz in the market. Even the MBIL 50-50 lease scheme is not that lucrative from finance point of view.

Almost all the pre-owned BMW vehicles shown on the site are from Mumbai and Pune with a few in Gurgaon.

I haven't seen any vehicle outside of these three cities yet. So I guess when they get more vehicles into their garage across india, they will add the city based search.
But yes, the city based search should be there. India is not a country where one can buy vehicles from out of state and run it easily in a different state of registration.

I know there's BMW inspection and backing peace of mind through their official 2nds retain but IMO most of the prices still seem way too high.

Perhaps it'll make sense for the slightly older and higher mileage models. However, if you're looking for "nearly new", "low mileage" options, my sense is that the following factors:

(a) seemingly high asking price (IMO);
(b) higher interest rate that 2nd hand cars attract (I'm assuming but correct me if I'm wrong on this); and
(c) lower follow on resale since you're a 2nd owner,

will tilt the balance of economics in favour of going for a new equivalent model anyway.

Just checked bmw used car website. I started to think it is beneficial for the buyer to choose from the second-hand range than go for a fresh piece as long as their 360 degree check is effective . I believe BMW will be open for negotiation on these sticker prices.

Re: BMW India launches pre-owned car division. Full details uploaded!

Need some advice for a friend who is embarking on a first time BMW buy and is looking at preowned cars to begin with.
Would it be a good idea to start with the BMW dealerships for pre owned cars ? Anything to be specifically wary of ? How trustworthy are these guys ? Any help greatly appreciated.

A good forward step towards gradual "corporatization" of the largely unorganised used car market. This is a positive thing from a buyer's perspective. If I were in the market for such a luxury marque, I would be pleased to pay a bit more just for the peace of mind!

As it is one can see 6-7 year old Mercedes cars selling at really low sounding sticker prices.

It is only a matter of time before all these desirable automobiles become as common in India as they are abroad.

A regular, normal working bloke could not conceive of owning a Merc or a Beemer or an Audi on his own steam, even as recently as 6 years ago! There is a sea change now, with many Mid-Senior Management blokes actually buying and owning a desirable automobile from one of the big German Trio of Brands!

This is truly amazing, for anyone who has grown up in India in the 1970's and 1980's and started working in the early 1990's when Quasi Socialism and Protectionist policies ruled the roost!

The only glitch is the super-glacial pace at which the infrastructure development is growing!

I generally found the prices listed on there website in used car division to be pretty steep compared to market prices. If they offer warranty and covers like BSI then it might be of worth to pay all that extra money. Otherwise you are better off buying from outside and keeping the money saved for any untoward expenses that might crop up.
