Technically, there shouldn't be as long as it has been imported legally and it passes all Indian RTO fitness tests. It's not a mass produced car so it should not have homologation issues.

Practically, if it is Gurgaon (HR26) and you are Maruti, do you think you'd ever have trouble?

AFAIK, MSIL started the trend of using cars in ads with the registration numbers visible. That's why most cars featured in Maruti ads have HR26 or DL9XXXXXX numbers. Others seem to have caught on. In two-wheelers Bajaj did it long back with "Yeh Zameen Yeh Aasman: Hamara Bajaj" ad. I still remember the Chetak with BDU 335 on it.

if it is the new alto, the EON guys would be celebrating now! EON looks, score far better than the ALTO in the pic!

Re: SCOOP Pics! New Maruti Suzuki hatchback spotted testing. Badged as Alto

There are two versions of Alto in Japan - regular Alto and Alto van. Looks a bit different from front, but don' know the details. IMO, both are better than the overdone Eon.

The scoop is that of regular Alto, I think.

I wonder how did they allow the car to move in city unmasked.I doubt they will replace their Best selling car yet.

It could be purely for testing purpose for all we know without a possibility of a launch, Remember Spotting of the European Accord around NCR??

The car looks good. It does not have the aggressive stance of an A star, but look at it utility wise.
  • ( Judging by exterior shape ) It has ample space both at front and rear
  • Lookwise , the front has a decent shape, not very dull looking.
  • Rear is boring, but still it looks to have ample boot space too.
  • The best is the tall boy nature, which will give driver a better allround visibility

So for the class of customers who prefer utility and comfort over highspeed stability and performance ( we dont no yet about the performance but assuming that it has Alto engine ) , IMO this looks like the best car.

All A Star requires is a tweak to make it appealing, some changes here. Maruti will end up tapping a huge potetial market. Who actually think WagonR is expensive, but Alto is just too old and simple.

What I feel like :
- Alto/K10 will be there for obvious reasons. 25Ks more month. No point of discontinuing this car.
- A star is mostly shipped for export market. So suzuki won't mind whatever small scale figures it is doing in our market.
- 800 is almost dead. This car will replace the 800.

In my opinion, Maruti Suzuki should stop "trying" to introduce new cars and should actually work on designing a new car. I mean, how many variations of the same basic hatch that you can come out with. What MS needs is a new radical design philosophy.

Re: SCOOP Pics! New Maruti Suzuki hatchback spotted testing. Badged as Alto

If this car handles well (at least A-star like chassis), comes with the KB10 and at EON price, it will beat the crap out of the small Hyundai.

I would like to see a ZXi version, fully loaded with the K12M engine and at A-star ZXi price! Too much to expect? I know

A re-worked front end (Very simple design), would be planted on this vehicle.
May be a new 800 or sub 800 cc engine would be available and we will get the 800 replacement.

Hope they don't name it 800.

Can we expect a surprise at the Auto Expo?

A production version of this JDM Alto/800 should be mostly showcased at the Auto Expo along with Ertiga.

@ the Euro Accord that was usually spotted around NCR, remember that car very well, almost every 15-20 days someone would come with its pics and the thread would be live once again. Seems, Honda has finally sent it back to Japan or wherever it belonged to.

Argh !! This car is downright ugly. A mix of a-star, eon and what not. Wonder what Maruti is upto
Wagon r is gonna have some competition now.

Front looks like A Star, back like a Wagon R and sides like an Eon. Could call it a "CONFUSEON" BY MARUTI.
